I got a question about these tournaments and opens... I don't practice BJJ at all but I practice Judo and currently hold green belt. Because its different to BJJ but still in a Gi what category of belt would i be put in, in equivilent to BJJ belt for that kind of open?

i imagine you would be white mate as you need to go to a bjj club and train and work your way up to blue and purple ect before you could enter a higher division .

thanks mate, i just wondered cus we practice newaza alot i would of thought that bjj white belt against a middle version judo belt would be bit unfair. Just needed to find out really cus im thinking on entering one of these opens later this year they seem pretty kool.

Youd be surprised robbie. Ive got my blue in judo and train and have fought MMA, but Im still a white belt in BJJ. Ive only been training BJJ a few months but I competed at the Essex open, and lost, annoyingly I was held down with Kessa getami.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get to the leisure centre by public transport from Birmingham city centre?
I'll be in Birmingham city centre on the Sunday morning, trains dont get there till after 9 so thats no use.
I was looking at the no.50 bus, would anyone reccomend this or have any other suggestions?

I would check the rules on the judo thing, i did a bjj tournament last month and lost bronze medal in amateur catergory to someone that has done akido for 3 years and judo for 2 and a half years but its ok as hes only done bjj for twelve months so that doesnt make him better than me that still makes him an amateur its f8cked up IMO!

when you say amatuer category do you mean white belt division in bjj? cus if he was training twelve months how long do it usually take in bjj to go to next belt category? in judo it took me 4 months to get to 6th kyu which is yellow belt.. im quite interested to see how bjj system works cus there are a bjj team local to me as i was told by someone on here via PM so im probs gonna give them a try see what much difference it has to judo.

Depends, Its not like judo. You get awarded your belts when your instructor decides you deserve it or have earned it. In BJJ after white is blue, so you miss out on the yellow, orange and green, if you think how long it would take you to get your blue in Judo your probably not far off. Theres a thread on here about BJJ grading, check it out, its written by a Carlson Gracie instructor( I think ), so thatll tell you more than my lowely white belt views.

i'm down for the blue master at 70kg - having trouble cutting weight - despite good diet and extra training.....what happens if fighters are over weight by 1 or 2 kg?

DQ i think :)
Yeah, 1 or 2 kilo is quite a lot lol.. if you can't make a certain weight you register for the higher one

Under IBJJF rules; if you are overweight (even by 0.1kg) you are DQ'd. No 2nd chance.
Sometimes people allow a tiny weight allowance or a 2nd chance to weigh in, but I wouldn't count on it.
Why O why Have it on Fathers day!

I see my old man all the time, so don't really care about it at all. It's only a made up day to sell you shitty compilation albums and rugby dvds anyway.

Thing is though Rob, a lot of fighters are fathers themselves and then Fathers Day is something the kids like, making the cards, getting a little pressie, making breakfast for dad etc. Its not nice being away when your the father!
Some of the comps dates this year have been a bit silly to say the least, hope it changes next year :)

what if there is only two fighters in one cat.?
for instance, super super heavy in blue belts?
we will get only one fight or you will mix super heavy with super super heavy?

Hi guys, I am really worried and wondering if you guys have any advice or knowledge on the following. I was supposed to be fighting at heavy 94 kg ish but for some reason I am down on the website as competing at 88.3. I have just emailed them to see if they can change my weight category but was wondering is there any chance of this happening or is it to late and I am just screwed. This is my first jiu-jitsu tournament and I would be gutted if I couldn't compete due to a simple error.
What do you guys think will happen?

Make sure you contact them asap mate, hopefully it should be ok.
If you put 94 down on the entry they should change it.
