Dexter and 24 are awesome. Download the series though or get them on box set as you lose some of the intensity waiting week by week.
I watched the first season of 24 in about 2 days last year, I need to get back into it again but its one of those progs that your life will just come to a stop while you sit and watch them back to back, Not sure about Dexter though however i might give it a try as loads of people have recommended it

I remember buying 24, watching 17 episodes straight through the night and being quite tired at work the next day.
I have just finished the Shield, maybe the only show that just got better and better with every season.
I would like to add The West Wing, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Peep Show, Generation Kill and the ever depressing Oz as other great TV shows.
I've seen the first 5 episodes of Sons Of Anarchy and I'm really liking it. A great cast which is headed by a brit! Peggy Bundy is looking very good!

looking to get into a new TV series of some sort
* Battlestar Galactica, awesome even for non-SF fans
* The Wire, pure quality and every season has a very different feel to it
* Generation Kill is very very good and a true story.
* Prison Break is daft but entertaining.
* Jericho was OK, a bit tame compared to the above but was kind of entertaining although only two seasons long
* Rome is stunning, visually awesome, nice blend of gutter entertainment (sex and violence) with intellectual stuff (political machniations and intrigue) plus historically accurate
* Deadwood is amazing, a crime they cut it after three seasons IMO. More swearing in this show than any other I've ever seen, I got a bit tourettish after watching this.
The Prisoner- an old one but well worth the watch. ITV4 were showing it again a while back, if you fancied something a little retro that is.

If we'r talking British TV, then...
* Ideal - fucking hilarious, don't like Johnny Vegas usually but this is spot on
* Black Books - surreal masterpiece
* IT Crowd- more Graham Linehan genius
* Blackadder, classic.

BSG was good fun, I lost a bit of interest towards the end though.
Rome was utter class.
Deadwood, more swearing than Oz? I'm not sure.

IT Crowd has been far better since the appearance of Matt Berry, though Chris Morris was also very funny but wasn't in it enough.
15 stories high with Sean Lock is well worth a watch, very funny indeed.

Why thank you sir, didn't know my recommendation carried that much weight!
I could never get into 24 - I actually agree with Detox, I think it's propaganda.
