Im after getting the following items for my MMA Sparring sessions and was wondering if anyone can offer any advise on what to go for. As for the head guard, how are you best deciding what size to go for, as I wont be able to try it on as im ordering on the net.
Sparring Gloves with open hand so I can still grapple
Shin Guards
Heard Guard (i assume full head is what I want)
If anyone can offer a link to something you reckon would be good for me please do, only im unsure on whats good etc being new to it all.
Thanks again.

Right, which MMA sparring gloves out of these two would you get (or neither!) ?

http://www.fightsuperstore.co.uk/details2.asp/ProductID/768/sid/4/triumph-united-mma-sparring-gloves.htm
and looking at head guards, why is there such a big price difference between these. Is the cheaper one still good, or am I better paying a bit more for one of the others.

Any advise would be much appreciated!

I have to agree i have never trained with anyone that uses a headguard. Maybe if you have a fight coming up and cant risk a cut but i find they just get in the way. Get yourself a well fitted gum shield dont spar with anyone who is wearing small mma gloves and be controlled.
As for gloves i always use these http://www.fightsuperstore.co.uk/details2.asp/ProductID/362/sid//Twins-MMA-Sparring-Gloves.htm
and shins i like these http://www.ultimatefightwear.co.uk/acatalog/Shinguards.html

Cheers guys. Only reason why im asking about a head guard is because we have been told to get one by the instructor.
As for a gum sheild, I was going to get one made from the dentist, as I heard that the universal ones were not that great

O i see, well if its the club rule just get yourself a cheap dip foam one and try not to wear it unless you really have to or want to.
You are right the universal gum shields suck but having one made can cost alot. I get mine from here http://www.proguards.co.uk/ and they are just as good as a dentist one in my opinion. Opro are good aswell.
Whatever you all do dont go here http://www.guardkit.co.uk/ i ordered one from these guys and they took my money and then that was the last i heard from them, no reply to emails or anything

Another options if you 'have' to wear a head guard is get a heavier model of rugby scrum cap.
I've used one before when I had staples in my head and the range of movment plus vision is far greater than a usual headguard allows.

Cheers for the link, those gum sheilds look like the best option. I rang my dentist and they start at £55.
I am in between head guards still, either to get
http://www.fightsuperstore.co.uk/details2.asp/ProductID/769/sid/6/triumph-united-head-guard.htm
or to get http://www.bytomic.com/detail.asp?c_urn=11&show=pgno3&urn=16&pg=3
What are you reasons for saying to get a dipped foam one. Is it just because they are cheaper?

Dave
Yeah... do loads of cardio, kick loads of ass, look good for the cameras and get a good set of abs like mine... I call them my babies.
... oh and for amateur MMA, get some bad ass shin guards, like this guy on the left. They used to use them in old Ultimate Combat events.
