Well Done to them both.

Roger again using basic Jiu Jitsu in an absolutely unstoppable manner that the best in the world could not counter.
Pass,mount,cross choke.Just like Rickson.

Stupid Question but i'm curious.

How Big is Braulio, he always seems little in photos but he must be big to fight at Heavy.

6'3", 6'4" or so. He won his previous two titles at 88.3 (with the gi) I think, and this year at 94.3. He fought ADCC at under 98.

Pretty big guy.

Braulio is a big guy, easily 6"3 if not 6"4 and his strength is ridiculous, coupled with the technique [ functional strength ie knowing how and when to push and pull etc. ] makes his strength feel even more un real. Very difficult to cope with, when I used to train with him I was defending for 4 and half minutes, attacking for 30 seconds !!! This of course from starting in his guard, when it was started standing / wrestling or was mma related it was a lot different.

Never trained or rolled with Roger but would imagine him to be exactly the same.

Being multiple World champs, as these two are, is an amazing achievement. Well done.

Hanging with Braulio ? Who said anything about hanging with Braulio ?

What belt am I ? I was never a bjj competitor and rarely trained in the gi. Braulio gave me a blue belt many years ago. I was always no gi / mma.

Sorry, but I dont understand the relevance / reasoning to your questions.

And Marcello Garcia comes back to win middle. But does anybody know what happened in the final; it was 'decided' (???) after the other finalist was Alliance...?

Sergio Moraes was the other finalist. I've heard they did "Paper, rock, scissors" for it, but I'd be more inclined to think it went to Marcelo on seniority.

I think It was the only final not contested, every other one was fought for. I know Roger, Braulio and Romulo Barral said they'd fight if they met in the finals of the absolute (and Roger and Romulo did).

I thought from what you were saying you must be a high level BJJ guy so I was interested to know what belt.

.

In my experience of sparring with Braulio I have never been able to mount any kind of meaningful attack (or defend anything for long) so I assumed that if you were able to then you must have some decent grappling (BJJ) skills.

This of course from starting in his guard, when it was started standing / wrestling or was mma related it was a lot different.

This statement indicates that you would get the better of him standing or MMA so once again I assumed you must have a high level of BJJ.

Anyway don't read too much into it, I was just interested to see a new face on the BJJ forum so I wondered what belt you were.

So with 4 in his weight class I wonder if Roger will go for 5 (which I don't think anyone has done before) or will it be time to concentrate on MMA.

I think Braulio is on 3 now so another one would put him up there with the best ever.

The hard part for Roger is that he is in a weightclass that has such a big spread (290-206 lbs). Someone like Lesnar who comes in at 290 lbs by fight time or Kongo who has an 82 inch reach (6 foot 10) can present some serious problems.

I don't even know if he could cut to LHW but I would think that is where he needs to be.

If they established a 235 lbs division for guys like Couture, Big Nog, etc I think that would be ideal for Roger.

Although I suppose something like Satoshi Ishii vs Roger Gracie would be a real possiblity in Sengoku as they are of comparable fight and it would be a safe fight (no real danger of taking striking damage) for both of them.

Rogers on 6 for his weight class and 2 for the abs!

Sorry for the mistake, so with 6 wins he is already the most successful Jiu Jitsu fighter ever. I would of thought he could have his pick of fight organisations.

According to J Sho's spreadsheet, since 1996 at the Mundials; Roger is the most successful BJJ competitor (and I think ever?) and Braulio is the 14th most successful.

Hopefully they both have plans to add more golds to their trophy cabinets too.

Well he's already subbed a much bigger guy(Waterman). I think if he trained seriously for MMA he'd be a successful HW, I don't think he could/should cut to LHW.

Robson Moura (1997 - 2000),Saulo (1997 - 2000), Roleta (1996 - 1999), Royler Gracie (1996 - 1999) and Cobrinha (2006 - 2009) have won a weight category 4 years in a row. Roger has won a weight category 6 years in a row
Cobrinha (2007 - 2009) and Roleta 1996 - 1998) have also won the mundials & pan ams in the same year 3 years consecutively.

All the guys with 2 or more golds at the mundials. (W = weight category/o = openweight).

Ordering based on: Total number of golds then total number of absolute golds then total number of silver

Congratulation to Roger and Braulio. No need to go to Brazil, the best in the World teach and train here. My son Luke is with Gracie Barra in Birmingham. He is still young and Braulio and his team have treated him very kindly. Its nice to be important but more important to be nice and they are both at this excellent acadamy. Watch out for Luke at the British open!
