Fellas,

How many sessions you training? And how much is too much? I'm planning on doing..

Four striking lessons/week
Two grappling sessions/week
Three strength and conditioning sessions/week

Is this too much? I will be consuming a sufficient (3-4000 kcal) amount of cals.

Thanks fellas.

from a very uneducated position I think you will know when your doing too much, personally training makes me feel more alert, livelier and better all round, doesn't always kick in right away but it will be there, I do early work shifts that I get out of bed at 1:15am for, will do a 12 hour shift, grab 2 hours kip in the afternoon then go to training ideally (doesn't always work out that way) , now and then I get a more gubbed feeling, all over exhausted, I assume this is when I have pushed that bit too far, but as long as it's rare then you know your just pushing to your limits.

Training schedule for the school I attend is
6-7 thai, 7-8:30 BJJ Sunday,
6-7 strength and cond, 7-8 thai, 8-9 BJJ Monday
6-6:30 chest circuit, 6:30-7:30 Thai, 7:30-9;00 MMA Tuesday
7-8 Thai, 8-9 Thai intermediate (usually sparring) Thursday

think I've only managed to make all 4 nights once, but ry to get at least 3 out of 4 in every week, don't always manage, and that has made a big difference for me, initially just wanted to shed a few pounds but enjoy every class, 4.5 months in now since I started end of Jan, shed just under a stone but have dropped 1-2 clothes sizes, putting muscle on at the same time as losing fat has prevented a big weight drop, lost a bit to start with then lost nothing for a couple of months, last 2 weeks weights dropped almost 2kg

as I said, I am a a rank beginner with this stuff, I just turn up, do what I'm told by the coach and more experienced guys and see how I go, personally couldnt be happier with how it's progressing, feel better both in skill level and strenght/condition without burning out.

Just my experience as a beginner, feels like a good amount to me, how that scales to more experienced guys I don't know, but certainly for myself it seems a good level.

bit of a random rambling there, sorry, guess you should just try it and see, if you feel burnt out properly then your doing to much, if your not seeing any benefits your not doing enough, then tailor it to what suits you.

hopefully someone will a good bit more scientific knowledge will add to this shortly

The answer to this is a definite "it depends".

People vary in how much training is optimal for them - what's right for one person might be way too much for another person, and too little for someone else.

Also, it depends on the intensity of the sessions, how you schedule them (do you do two back to back, or morning / evening, how many full rest days do you have and where), what you want to work on, where you are in a training cycle, whether you have fights coming up etc etc.

What I would say is that it's better to start with fewer sessions and build up to what you are hoping to do, rather than to jump in at the deep end, find it's too much and get burnt out. If you monitor yourself for signs of overtraining, then you can adjust what you are doing depending on how it's going. It's well worth taking your resting heart rate every morning - if it goes up suddenly for no apparent reason then that's a good indicator that you may be overdoing it.

I've now had two BJJ sessions in a row. These are my first BJJ sessions and I currently feel as though I've been hit by a truck.

I wake up feeling incredibly sore and I tell myself that I'll give tonights session a miss, but come training time I still feel sore but not so bad that I cannot train.

I'm eating right and losing near to a kilo a session, and fat loss/conditioning is my priority at the moment.

I find that Im more alert and active by getting in proper rest - i normally do 4 nights a week training & Cardio On sat - i.e. long bike ride or run

If it gets too much i feel myself getting very tired in training and I then take 3 days off for full recovery.

Got to let your body recover

I really want to train more than I do, which is currently, at the best 2 sessions of MMA and 1 session of BJJ (each session is 1hr)
The only thing stopping me is money, its like £6 for each session, plus insurance of £10 a month, how do you guys afford it?
Id love to train the amount some of you have mentioned above!

£6 for an hour session? Sounds a bit steep that! Is Fedor your trainer?

DaveSupTT

Well its actually £5 a session for 1hr for Gary Savage, and thats for MMA and BJJ and then I also train with Jamie Edmonds for 1hr 15mins which is £6 for the session.
Gary does other sessions throughout the week that id like to go to but as I said, its all money! :(
Both are good though!

I think you'll know when you are doing too much coz you will get very tired and a bit ratty so if this happens give yourself time to recover. that way you will know what your limits are. I trained at the first mma training session last night and i woke up with aches all over, got myself together and went to the gym but beleive me i am gonna ache in the morning. i got tomorrow off then back to mma on thursday night. can anyone suggest a good post workout drink.

I aim to do...

Monday - 2 hours Grappling
Tuesday - 2 Hours MMA
Wednesday - 2 Hours MMA
Thursday - 2 Hours Thai
Friday - 2 Hours Thai
Saturday - Upper Body Weights
Sunday - Lower Body Weights

I normally drop one of the thai sessions on the Thursday or Friday as a rest day or one of the tuesday wednesday MMA depending how i'm feeling. Sometimes do a Saturday MMA as well instead of weights depending on what i am working.

I do 5/7 Sessions a week. This is what my normal week looks like.

Monday - BJJ (1 hour) MMA (1.5 hours)
Wednesday - BJJ (1 hour) MMA (1.5 hours)
Saturday - open Mat (1.5 Hours)
Sunday BJJ (1 hour) MMA (1 hour)

I wanna do alot more stand up so probaly gonna look for some Striking Classes as I find my stand up piss poor. Fitting in Gym would probaly be a wise idea but i need days off to relax abit.

I train a mixture ov BJJ, Wrestleing and Thai, 4-5 nights a week and normally do my cardio around my class times and every morning, at the minute im training 2 times a day, 6 days a week as im 6 weeks out from my next fight.
It depends on your body and how fast you recover.
