Went out yesterday afternoon with my machine left on (downloading Season 5 of The Wire!) and when I came home it was off and now it won't turn back on again! Am I right in assuming it's the power supply that needs replacing?

Start at the plug (fuse and wiring) and work your towards the computer from there. With any luck, something small has fried.

Check plug...
After that, if you get nothing when you turn it on, chances are the power supply has gone. Dont go to pc world, they will massively overcharge you! Can pick one up for around £15 from www.crystech.co.uk

You should be able to tell if its the PSU (power supply) as it will probably have a burnt electric smell if you have a good sniff at the fan in the PSU.

After that, it would probably be the motherboard. Anything else was gone, the PSU fan would still spin up when you turn it on.

90% it will be the PSU or the plug fuse though.

Or just unplug your monitor power supply. Plug into your PC and switch on. If it doesn't turn on, it's your PSU (power supply)... Fuck playing with fuses... too muich effort.

Not every PSU smells when its dead...
