Knowing the rules and weight divisions would be nice.

main rules no chokes or strangles but leg locks allowed in sambo. you get points for takedowns and have to win by 12 clear points or whoever is up at the end usually 5/6 min fight. more realxed and a bit more free than judo. you wear a samb jacket or gi with shorts. lot more rules but can find them on the brittish sambo federation web site
