Was told by my doc I had bronchitis and a chest infection. Finished a course of amoxcillin 1500mg a day last week and the chest infection seemed to get worse as I neared the end of the course. A week on and the phlegm is now clear and not green as it was initially. Thing is I'm still a bit wheezy and still coughing up loads of it, the doc has wrote me another prescription but I'm thinking I can't really go another week without training. Already gone nearly a month with having gastroenteritis.

What problems could I cause by training, maybe just a bit of light rolling and padwork ? I know people are gonna advise against it but I'm going insane here I'm sure everyone knows how it feels when you can't do anything. I'm talking light stuff just getting hr up a little not going all out which would prob lead to pleurasy / pneumonia.

im not a medic but when i have had chest infections (as im asthmatic prone to getting). the only training i would do is press ups, crunches in many different ways.

you no what where like "light rolling". it starts off light then for me it starts getting competetive. what about gentle grapple drills on your own

anyways thats just what i do, lots of people will probally have more informed advice

get well soon, i hate not being able to train, it drives me mad

Swimming has helped me, i had bronchitis but its clearing up now, a bit of pad work and a bit of swimming just take it slow obviously, training should be ok though

Finally shook mine off Neil, double dose of amoxylin didnt shift it so the doc gave me some doxycycline and it seemed to do the trick. No more phlegm, asthma is still playing up a bit more than usual though but can actually train now which is a bonus.

Hope you get rid of it soon, its a fucker.

it's mad for me seeing this topic, i suffer quite bad with asthma an in the summer haye fever kick's it off and in the winter training in the cold kick's it off. Ive put myself in hospital 3 years on the run by trying to train through a cheast infection and been pulled from 2 fight's over the last few year's always around oct-nov because of this.
Last year was the worst time, i ended up in hospital for 3 night's on a antibiotic drip and a nebulizer. I get them 3-4 times a year an im in the middle of another cheast infection now but luckily i haven't got no fight's cumming up because of a knee injury.
training wise i'd avoid doing ANYTHING what make's you breath heavy as i find this makes it ten times worse the next day.If you feel like you've got to do something do some really light shadow/light cycling or jogging in doors at a really slow pace and abit of weight's making sure you dont get out of breath or breath heavy!

If anyone's got any advise it would be much appreciated lad's!!!

Fuck me I thought I was bad mate ! I also find that if I get to that stage where you push yourself and your lungs are burning I tend to be ill the next day and progresses to a chest infection.

I have seen an improvement the last week by taking my preventative religiously, my ventolin just before exercise and avoided milk / dairy like the plague which seems to irritate it. Also kept on top of the dust in my room as I'm sure that has some effects as well.

I visited the asthma nurse last week for the first time in years and only just realised yo uare only supposed to use your blue inhaler a few times a day max. My old doc told me you can use it as many times as necessary, I remember at one point I was using it 20 + times a day and through the night to be able to breathe normally :(

it's no good is it pal, taking your preventer first thing in mornin and last thing at night makes a big diff, i try to only use my reliever when im a bit tight or weezey. I try to not to use my reliever too much or out of habbit bacause i think the less you use it the better it works but i still have to use it a couple of times a day no matter what.
The fitter i get the better my asthma but ive overtrained a few times and been run down an that's what's triggered a cheast infection. I take alot of vitamins and shit for my imune system because normal coughs and cold's usually esculate into a cheast infection for me so the less cough's or cold's i get the better.
Ive been saying it for a long time but im gonna go see a specialist so if they give me any good advice i pass it on to ye mate.

Thanks mate, I still have the chest infection, totally doing my head in now and also to be honest a bit worrying. I have had them befpre but this time it seems much deeper and does not want to move. I suppose it will go in its own time

I have Asthma also, just like you guys I suffered with Bronchitis & Chest infections, I also have multifle Allergies. I went to The Asthma Clinic at my G:P's, was prescribed Symbicort Turbohaler & for the past 2 years I have been using it once A:M & P:M, I have experienced dramatic results that changed my life, I hardly ever use my reliever & cannot remember the last episode or illness, if you have not tried it do so, cannot praise it enough.
