I want to get a new video camera. Will be using it mainly to record BJJ and MMA, in the club and at competitions.

I think it's going to come down to either of these two Sony's;

...which I can find for £329 cheapest price so far, or;

...which I can find for £240.

Is the SR75 worth the extra money?

I'm also open to other suggestions although any camera I get must record to HDD and it has to have USB or Firewire (I doubt any cameras don't). I am not interested in recording in HD.

Thanks for that in-depth analysis!

Main differences are the SR75 has better quality (1mp vs. 0.8) although a smaller zoom (x25 vs. x60). The zoom doesn't really bother me as I doubt I'll ever be far enough away from anything to need more than a 25 times zoom. The SR75 also has better shot stabilising, which is something that could be worth the extra money... depending on how much better it is.

in relation to the price of the camera its a big increase in price for the more expensive one.

why dont you go into a Currys and ask for a Demo, then make your mind up then?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. For £70 I could get a spare battery and a tripod. Plus I'm going to want a wide angle lens, maybe a fisheye too... so saving a bit of money on the camera would be useful.

Have thought about going to try them out, but I wouldn't be able to fully test them (i.e. transfer to a computer and check the quality then etc).

I'll check what quality my current camera is, if it's less than 0.8mp I'll probably go with the cheaper one, cos my current camera has been great for everything so far.

I capitalise on this... trial and error baby. Buy both and see which ones best.
