Pondlife!

They just want to avoid the warm up and don't care if they disrupt the class to do it.

Kick their half hearted arses out I say!!!

Maybe, but I think it's excusable if you're just coming from work.

make them do a shorter but more intense warm up before joining in. possibly.

we don't have that problem fortunately.
the only bloke who occasionally turns up a bit late also runs his own fitness business so i think that makes him late sometimes. he also tutors our class every now and then so i don't think anyone is going to complain at him missing warm ups:D ........but now i think of it, he does seem to be missing for most warm ups, either turning up late or wandering around "preparing" his gloves, knee pads etc!!

It happens sometimes. I usually try to clear it with my trainers when i know I'm going to be late [I usually have a Judo class on Fri and 7:30-8:30 and an MMA class on Fridays at 8:30 for example]

Only one reason to be late anywhere. I wasn't important enough for you to be on time

i hate being late and matched up with 'the retarded guy' who sucks at holding pads and has the cardio of a 80 year old man, although sparring becomes that much sweeter, im late about once in every 100 lessons though.

i had this discussion with a foreign coach recently and he said..

'Tell them to go home (unless he has a good exuse), and be on time the next night. If hes late again, tell him to find another club'

Harsh i thought initially..but ideally its the way forward to instill respect if the club aint strapped for cash!!

I think if your coming from work and your traveling to training then being late is no big deal. You are paying for the lessons - time missed your still paying for it and it's only you who is losing out.

once or twice, fair enough. If you are continually late, then doesn't it become disrespectful to the coach, gym and your training partners. if you are really struggling to get there, then maybe another gym would be better?

I honestly couldn't care less if people are late, even if they do it all the time. It doesn't effect me (whether just training or teaching) and if they want to miss the warm-up all the time that's fine... they're always the people who are fucked after one round of sparring anyway.

Oh, and don't forget there is a consistent answer to all gym related problems...

What happens if one day you turn up and there's only three of you training? The 'late' guy is still on his way.... that would impact on your training and you can't really say anything, cause you have let it go in the past

Sometimes there is an odd number of people training anyway. If someone turned up late then it makes things better so don't see the problem?

Or do you mean if you had been planning on a person being there but then they turned up late? That is a different matter I agree, if that happened regularly I would say something to them.

My main point is, there is no real excuse for being late....if it was important, you wouldn't be late. You would make arrangements to ensure you aren't late.

Being late, bascially means it isn't important to you, so why should anyone bother wasting their time on training you?

Yeah, agreed. It doesn't effect me though so I'm not too bothered, they're the ones losing out.

I work 7-17:30
On a tuesday and a wednesday training normally starts around 17:15 and i get there about 25 minutes late. It doesnt mean it is not important to me, i cant just come and go from work as i please though. If WORK is not an excuse though i dont know what is?!

It means that it isn't important enough to you. Work is more important than training to you. That's fair enough, it is to me and (although I am rarely late), I do miss some sessions due to work.

If training was more important to you, then you would have lots of options. Find a gym with a later start time (17:15 is earlier than average, and fairly unreasonable), quit working and become a full time fighter, find another job that gives you an earlier finishing time. See, there are lots of options, IF it was important enough for you

I probably took your original post out of context then! Sorry about that.
It is only the MMA classes on Tuesday and Wednesday that are earlier start times. I normally give one of the classes a miss and do the Saturday MMA class to make up for it.

I do see where your coming from though i guess, but lets face it, finding another gym, a new job, or just quitting your job are not simple options are they?

Personally i think that if the trainer knows you are going to be turning up later and hasnt got a problem with it then its not really a problem.
