View Full Version : Is 2 sessions a month worth it?

My club has just started doing BJJ classes straight after the MMA sessions on a Friday. Because of my shift pattern I'm only training once a week at the moment, but I've figured out I can manage 2 a week if 2 weeks out of the month I just do both sessions on the Friday.

So basically I just wanna know if you guys think training in a gi twice a month is at all worthwhile. Obviously I know I'll never be a BJJ whizz, but are 2 sessions a month enough to learn anything at all?

You should ask yourself if you enjoy it.
If you do, then I say well done dude and I say that you should do it without a doubt. Enjoyment is absolutely paramount in any sport in my books.

Yes I would say so.

You obviously have the sense to know that your progress will be painfully slow, but you will learn more from two sessions a month than you would from no sessions a month IMO.

Good point mate, I'll definately give it a go, but if I'm gonna stay shit forever I might lose hope a bit!

I enjoy any kind of training, bit of a glutton for punishment :D

Of course it will.

If you can move your hips right to escape mad positions then you're already golden. After that it's just details really.

That should read bad positions. Seriously if you can play no gi you can pick up gi work. The game changes and slows down significantly and you have to be awae of a whole new set of threats and opportunities but if the fundamentals of both are the same.

Try and do what some of the guys who work shifts where I train do, meet in the mornings after nights or days off outside class and drill the stuff you leared at class and roll a little.

my training can be a bit all over the place with work and family commitments. I try and train as much as I can in the evenings in class plus 2 - 3 lunch times even just for 45 mins. (I have been known to book half days holiday and not tell the wife and roll all afternoon before now :D ). luckily the gym I train at has a dojo so a few of us go there in between classes too.

it all helps especially if there are some good purple and blue belts there too
