If you are in a competition and you tap from an illegal hold (e.g. a heelhook or spinelock @ novice level) and are unable to continue what should the result be?

It should be a DQ to the guy applying the illegal hold, even if you tap shouldn't?

I'm no expert, but I can imagine if there doing an ILLEGAL submission, they would get DQ'd.

Yeah, if you tap to an illegal submission, your opponent gets DQ'd. Under CBJJ rules anyway.

Only if the ref sees the illegal move, if all he sees is you tapping (perhaps he is out of position), you lose.

This reminds me off one of the UFC's (cant remmeber which one, maybe 1 or 2 ago)
Someone got eye gouged and was obviously in pain and then got pounded with shots, and got stopped by TKO, does anyone else remmeber this?

Ahh, good caveat, I didn't think to mention that.

What if the ref is the same team as you though? ;)

What if the ref wasn't watching the fight at all?! Not that something like that would ever happen, haha.

If you don't tap if someone has an illegal (or legal) submission on you, are you a retard, and does this then entitle you to free parking?

What if the ref was speaking on his mobile, eating a slice of pizza and coaching his student on a neighbouring mat whilst one of the competitors he is reffing gets choked cold. :D

lol

What if you walked up to watch a match, started chatting to a black belt you know... and then realised he was meant to be reffing the match you are watching.

Imagine stuff like this actually happened during competitions!!

Imagine stuff like this actually happened during competitions!!Man if something like that happened that would be terrible!! But surely all the refs do all they can for the sport and don't take there eyes of the guys for 1 sec?:D

in answer to the OP yes, an illegal sub will result in a DQ, see Monson against Pe de Pano for a good example.

Luckily for us, they are all theoretical situations!
