Can a swollen tender knee cause back pain. I twisted up my knee on the mat, since then I have had the odd back twinge. Is it because I am moving differently to avoid pressure on my knee or is it anything to do with nerves ?

thanks

If the knee injury is causing you to alter the way your body usually moves while you're walking then this can have an impact on your back. It's always best to see an expert though rather than relying on self diagnosis & forums. There are lots of possible reasons & solutions.

It could very well be, is the knee problem on the outside by any chance? You IT band runs from below the knee all the way up to the glute so if that's tight it could cause pulling on your pelvis and knock onto your back I guess. It's all balance and compensation with the body. Go see a chiropractor and get a straight answer, better than letting an injury go chronic

Yes it can and vice versa. An injury or strain on one part of the musculo-skeletal can cause seemingly unrelated pain and injuries to pop up on other parts. As your body tries to compensate for an injury or pain by altering its posture or gait slightly then strain is put on other areas which can result in other injuries over time.

I have the reverse problem as you. Due to a long term back injury (10- - 15 yrs) by body has altered its posture so much to compensate that I now have intense knee pain.

Go to an Osteopath or Chiropractor and they will get you sorted.
