M-1 Global Already Picking Up Pieces From Trilogy Cancellation
posted by J. Andrew Yount

Since Affliction’s Trilogy pay-per-view event was cancelled early today, many fighters, promoters, and news outlets have been chaotically scrambling to try and make sense of it all. In the midst of the chaos and shattered rubble of what was once looked to be a great event, Affliction’s co-promoter, M-1 Global, has stepped forward to begin sweeping up the mess. MMA Spot has learned that M-1 officials notified several fighters about participating on the M-1 Breakthrough event on August 28.

Of the fighters being mentioned in the notice were, Mikhail Zayats, Rob Broughton, Lucio Linhares and Jessie Gibbs. Other reports have also surfaced that Gegard Mousasi has been contacted to also appear on the card; however those reports are unconfirmed at this time.

Upon learning of M-1’s attempt to keep some the Trilogy fights or fighters fighting, MMA Spot contacted Warrior Promotions, the agents of Rob Broughton. While Broughton’s representatives would neither confirm nor deny the notification, they did issue this statement concerning the cancellation of Affliction’s Trilogy event just eight days from the planned date.

“Naturally Warrior Promotions Fighter Management (WPFM) are disappointed at the cancellation of the Affliction event, as our client Rob Broughton was looking forward to showcasing his skills in L.A. next Saturday. However, M-1 Global has reacted to this news in a speedy, proactive manner and we hope to confirm that Robbie will be fighting in M-1 Breakthrough on August 28th in the next few days"

With M-1 actively looking to come out of Friday’s mess with some good news, the organization is being praised by fans, fighters, and advertisers for their proactive approach and dedication to make the best of a bad situation.

I hear the two fights that were to be unaired will be moved to that M-1 show but no others. Apparently the salaries are too high for what is budgeted for that M-1 show.
