Guys,
I'm going out to the states in November to see some family. I've got a criminal record for 2 counts of common assault, is this going to cause issues with a VISA or not? Dont want to go book tickets and stuff and end up not being able to go :(

Not easy to answer
As a visitor you don't need a Visa. UK is part of the Visa Waiver Programme. So you go on line and answer some simple question
You will be asked if you have been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude.
Moral turpitude covers a lot of ground and basically means anything that isn't in line with honesty and good morals. There is no guidence or details on what crime that covers though.
Assault is covered, but typically either a)Assault with intent to commit murder or b) Assault with a dealy weapon
"Yes" or "no" is up to you....

I'm not sure if it's a blanket decision, or if it was just because she's a celebrity, but I know that Amy Winehouse was denied a working Visa in the USA earlier this year/last year because of a common assault charge. Might be different for 'normal' people, or if you're just visiting.

Not 100% on how serious they'll treat those, or how long ago they were etc, but it seems to suggest that you'd have to have an appointment at the US Embassy in London and try to get a waiver on any ineligibility (the site suggests a $131 fee) if you have any trouble with it.
There's numbers to ring on here, prob worth asking them a few anonymous questions before sending in an application lol:

may have issues...normally drugs is the big no no.. not even a chance..
do the online esta visa aplication (which you will need to do anyway) and on there has the question if you have been convicted before, and you get a response at the end of the application
thinking about it, Im sure its drugs and terroists that they dont allow. and im sure thats the only questions they ask.. if you have done time for either of them..
something like assult they dont ask, unless you was convicted of manslaughter or attempted murder, but then that isnt common assult

no.. just fill out the esta form online, link from the US embassy site, and fill out the white and green forms they give you on plane... job done

If you want to do it properly contact the Embassy as you may need to apply for a visa if you have a previous. Even if it is for a holiday
Or you can fill out your ESTA and cross your fingers as you walk through immigration.

My favourite question is the one regarding whether you had any involvment with the nazi party in the 1940's.

Or the one that must catch out thousands of death-merchants every day: 'Are you a terrorist?'.
I hear that to get into the UK all you have to do is write down the price of a fish supper (correct to within £1), the top 3 premiership clubs and their current league position & be able to list Jodie Marsh's last 4 boyfriends. Nothing as cunning as (essentially) "Do you plan to kill anyone on your visit?".

Believe it or not, that same question appears on the Official Secrets Act!.... I was so close to ticking "yes", to see what would happen!

Just spoke to the Embassy and I have to pay $131 just for a interview to see if I am eligible for a VISA :(
For a couple of counts of common assault when I was younger what is the likely hood of being rejected?

Some people would of said "Just click no "... those people have possibly seen that done before and seen no problems....
... of course, you may of just brought attention to yourself now!

I know, I think I'm maybe just a bit too honest! It would be just my luck I would get all the way there and I would be stopped at the gate and I would get thrown on the next plane back!

Passing an ESTA means nothing. Unless you are on some kind of government hit list you should be ok'ed without much trouble.
I would say you would be very unlucky if you got stopped at immigration, especally if you did not bring any attention to yourself beforehand.
I know people who have got through with a record and jail time, but i heard of others who aren't so lucky.

Flying to Atlanta where they live, then making my way down to Miami with the missus for her birthday before ending up in Orlando and flying back from there.

You will have a great time Mick; i would recommend you go to a gun rage while you are there for a "unusual" experience - I can recommend somewhere in Orlando but sure there will be places all over Atlanta and Florida, but well worth a go for a different experience.
Sand Lake Road Gracie Barra is in Kissimmee too for a token T shirt or a sneak rolling session while the wife aint looking, just near International Drive
PS: make sure you tune into 93.5 Power Radio for constant replays of the same song ever 10 minutes!!
Have a good time
oh PS: if you are there while a UFC is on Beef O' Gradys is the best bet for PPV

Ah nice one, for UFC there is a Beefs just on the highway 27 near Walgreens (its in Champions gate anyway think its Ronald Regan drive or sum shit) theres also a huge Beefs at Auburndale, give them a ring and check their PPV showings before though.
The gun range I used was Oak Ridge, its in a built up residential area but has some "offit" (wacky in Teessidian) guys in there who have really been around gunpower and firearms way to much, like to the point it is all that matters and they will probably try and show you how to disarm intruders and all sorts the guys are fuckin fruit loops. plus there is Dunkin Donuts across the streets for a sugar rush after youve blasted the shit out of some targets!
heres the website for all your firearm needs

PS: I fired everygun from that bottom picture so glad I just checked that site again!
