Now that MMA in the UK has been around a bit and a lot of the 'pioneers' are in their 40s now and are retiring, is it about time that we had veterans class fights on some shows so that those who want to carry on fighting but can't keep up with the younger guys can still compete.........or would that not be commercial enought to be worthwhile?

Funnily enough I WAS thinking of you. Just think of this thread as an early birthday present for 2010

Who says you can't keep up with the younger guys when you're in your 40s? ;)

You're right any old fighter wouldn't sell tickets..
But there are a few boxers & muay thai fighters who were quality in their day & would definately bring in the crowds if they fought again. Some of them had skills that haven't been matched yet. Not sure of any MMA fighters who fall into the same bracket but i'm sure there is.
sounds a great idea.i am thinking of getting back in there and i am 52 lol might gas after 1 min so would have to try and end it fast.might just enter the ring in a wheel chair.or leave in 1

When were you last fighting? and have you been training since your last fight.
I ask because I'm about the same age as you and gave up training last year after I aggrevated an old injury...... but I had been struggling with finding the energy to train alongside younger guys when I gave up
my last pro fight was 20 years ago. it was all a bit differant in those days very few rules as such and it was not sanctioned my an official body.MMA has come on a lot since my day.but we old timers still think we can kick these young upstarts lol
