Rich Franklin never started traning proper MMA until the age of like 24. as a kid he done a bit of karate, but nothing serious. he made his debut at 26 and went on to become a ATG MMA FIGHTER!
Forrest Griffin never started until the age of 21 either!

cage fighting is relatively new so you can get away with starting late in life as long as you have started early and have a decent background in 1 of the essential sports (boxing, Thai, bjj, judo, wrestling). So in effect you haven't started late because you have been working a skill applicable to mma for years. With the new breed of fighters cross training in mma at such a young age its unrealistic to expect the future generation to be able to reach the top starting as late as the current generation have. With this said if you truly want to be a mma champion more than anything and you are willing to dedicate every last second of your life to the one goal of being the greatest fighter in the world theres no reason why you cant achieve this. But that is something only 0.01 percent of fighters can achieve so its up to you to prove everyone wrong. If cage fighting is really what you love to do though even if you don't make it to the UFC it wont be time wasted as you will have loved every minute of the battle.

whatever you enjoy then. Go wrestling, go bjj, go thai boxing, try everything and see what you like and what you would like to continue with, it would be pretty stupid to say, i wanna be a pro mma fighter when you don't know whether you really like mma or not.

I love the sport. The title was a bit of a joke, but knowing I could win medals and things would give me inspiration to start.
Do you think its best to try and become a well rounded equal fighter or try to excell at 1 art and become competent in the others?

each art seperately, and round it off at one gym, expensive and hard but most effective, you don't wanna be average at everything, you wanna be as beasty at everything as possible and train seperate, then pick your favourate subs, gnp or stand-up, enter comps in kickboxing and grappling to sharpen skills and gain experience, try to find really good sparring partners in each, to advance skills, obviously though you need to combine the skills at a mma gym, where you get a feel for the gloves and the whole mixture of fighting.
Just my 2 cents, others would disagree, but thats how gsp did it. And if you look at 90% of guys in the ufc, you look and think wow that guy's stand-up is really good, then you find out the guy is also a bjj brown belt and state wrestling champ.

My prediction is that you'd get murdered in UFC, but at least you got that punchers chance. Excel at what you're good at as you know you can finish that way. Plus, They may think you are crap so go easy and not bother to train, then you may have a chance at the gold belt.

Being a student doesnt mean you cant train. We have loads of students training with us, using your studies as an EXCUSE is pretty poor.
Why do you ask these questions if you already know you cant afford it or have the time? Do you think all the fighters on here swallow some Matrix style pill and that's it?
I work, pay bills, pay insurance, rent etc etc etc and I still manage to find time to train EVERYDAY and pay my gym fees EVERY MONTH so Im sure you can manage it. You spend a sh*tload of time on here, you can use that time to train.
That was your first lesson, time management.

In response to your question, yes, you are far too old to ever succeed in MMA.
In fact, watching or participating in the sport in any way will just fuel desires that can sadly never be fulfilled. Even posting on here will give you false hopes of UFC glory. Following these false hopes can only lead to a downward spiral of depression and self loathing, and will essentially destroy everything you hold dear to you.
So please, for your own good, fuck off back to boxing.

it has nothing to do with age really, more to do with how much damage you have taken. wanderlai silva is pretty much past it now and he's younger then randy courture when he started competing in mma.

Yes, you are really too young. The prefrontal cortex of the brain doesn’t even fully develop until the age of 22. So even if it was possible, you’re really not equipped yet. Maybe just keep working hard and try again in a few years.
