Anyone been to Turkey recently?
me and the girlfriend are going on the 25th of September for a week to Marmaris and she is still pretty unsure of it.
i was there ten years ago and loved it, was pretty cheap and lots of stuff to see and do

She's right to be unsure. They view women like Detox does in them places.

You got to be amazed by a group of people who come on to foreign women dressed in bikins while beating the shit out of their wives at home and makeing them cover up in black sheets.

that was one of the bad things, its not the done thing in this country to do that but i seen this when i was in turkey too. il just need to keep my eye on them.
Beautiful place. Be careful round the markets cos they're bloody good salesman. My made ended up buying £30 for 3 keyrings (which you could probably buy from wilkos for 50p, haha!). I was lured into a leather jacket shop.. just wanted a look and next thing they're getting me tea and haggling real hard, lol. I said no several times whilst he kept dropping from 400, to 300 to 200, lol... he wasn't really aggressive, they're generally cool but was an interesting experience though.

went there a while back with the arsenal.
had all the threats in the world, ended up marching 25 handed around the stadium singing "we're supposed to be in hell".
i know that's football related, the point being, alot of threats, criticisms etc of the area, but we had a decent time. going as football lads we were supposed to not come back, but had a good laugh, nice hotel, decent locals, nice food.
tbh i wouldnt rush back, its not a place where id say "i wouldnt take the mrs" because i've been to alot worse, but despite the locasl being nice enough etc, i always felt a bit safe with a few lads alongside me whilst out for dinner etc,
ive travelled the world, this was one place, as nice as the locals were and as unphased as we were, i always felt a bit better if i was going into town and had a couple of mates coming with me.
its not as bad as people say, but personally wouldnt take the mrs.
but saying that i went as a football lad, it werent as bad or violent as we'd expected but i still wouldnt fancy wandering around the town just me and the bird, always had eyes over the shoulder.
but of course, on a tourist holiday things would be totally different.
the locals were certainly far nicer and accomodating than we were led to believe, but personally i still wouldnt risk going just me and my partner, but thats from my football perspective, i probably just imagined more hostility than what was really there.

having wrote that, i note, i went as a touring football fan so atmosphere was slightly different to what you'd get as a usual tourist, and still then the locals were nice and accomodating.

lol cheers for the comments mate but do you think maybe you felt threatened because you were in a group of english football hooligans looking for trouble? i wont be running around the locals looking for directions to hell, just looking for some sun, beer and peace and quiet for a week. :D

i stoped just up the road from Marmaris in ishmiller (not spelt right ) , both place are great , you can get a dollymuss (bus)or what ever they call them for about 70p between the 2, loads and loads of plcae to go eat out and great bars , when i was in Marmaris the police had banned "hassle" which means that the bar owerns cant hassle you to come inside to eat ect ect , which was a good thing as in ishmiller it did your head in a bit but i have herad its been banned there too now
dont bother going on the turtle island trip you wont see any turtles no matter what any sales person tells you , the only good thing is the mud baths
loads of good trips to go on

I cant stand the place, Marmaris is just full of blaggers and people trying to take your pants down, take your eyes out and rip you off, "come in here you like" " buy this, cheap as Asda" "we cheapy cheapy" all that shite.
Round off bar street and the dock you get hasled all the way along and you can't get away because the sea is at the side of you, it takes the piss and I fucking hate the place!

I went to Icmeler (corrrect spelling!) a couple of years back and had a wicked time. Much quieter than Marmaris, but depends on what your after really. Some of the local lads in the bars were a bit pervy, but no more than the English lads were! Loads of cool bars and clubs in Marmaris, but much more expensive. When I went the bars in Icmeler were cheap as piss, there were a couple that had a 2 hour long happy hour with 2 for one drinks that were already cheap anyway! Theres only a couple of clubs in Icmeler and they're pretty crap, so if thats what your after stick to Marmaris.
We never had any trouble while we were there, but then we only went down to Marmaris twice, and to be honest I don't really remember much of it... :D

I'll agree with I Am Evil Homer about the Turtles, I didn't see one yet in Greece saw loads.
Also, every bugger in the world wants you to come into his shop/bar/restarant but you get that in a lot of places nowadays.
The weather is consistent - Scorchio
The scenery is generally good and the place in cheap compared to most other med places now.
I've been 3 times for holidays and also work and think you'll have a great time. You've booked it now so stop worrying, our opinions are just our opinions, go there with an open and optimistic view and let us know how good it was afterwards

We stopped off in Kusadasi when we were on our honeymoon cruise and not being a massive fan of Turks( Due to the leeds thing) was not looking forward to it.
The bazaars were an experience, didnt want to look in their stores so they started going on about me not liking their shops and shit.
One good thing tho, my mrs made me have a traditional shave in a barbers, and that was brilliant, although having a Turk with a cut throat razor hovering round my throat was slightly unnerving. (do it if you can)
