Think the amatur rules will include head shots on the ground, but fighters are wearing gloves, head gaurds and shin guards

Fight card not made up yet, we are trying to get enough interest to hold a amteur tournament in as many weight divisions as possible.

It is amateur only rules as per NSAC with no elbows, head shots standing and on the ground for amateur. No head shots for first time novice.

We are looking to use MMA sparring gloves or heavy MMA gloves. No head gaurds and I am not so sure about shin gaurds yet.

Novice open to 16years plus amateur 18years plus.

At the moment I am trying to get a deal on a cage for MMA, if that falls through then it will be a ring.

The WKA have included MMA in the championships this year for the first time.

We hope to provide you with a platform to get your novice and amateur fighters the expierence and exposure they need to progress in MMA in a competitive enviroment that is some times hard to find, most large shows preferring to use Pro and Semi Pro fighters.

These championships are being run on a not for profit basis and may be used as a selection for those wishing to represent Scotland at the WKA World Championships next year.

The WKA now use's a rule set based on the Nevada State Athletic Commision rules. These rules are adjusted slightly from country to country, things like the use of head protection and shin gaurds ect. Although WKA Scotland have accepted the use of NSAC rules they have not set the rules to be used in Scotland yet.
What we would like to do is offer you the gyms, coaches, fighters the opertunity to tell us what rules you would prefer to use for novice and amateur bouts.
We are willing to listen to anyone who has a competitive interest in MMA in Scotland and is looking to progress the sport in a positive way.

Feel free to post your comments or PM me for additional contact details.

What kinda numbers you got for this? I'm interested in competing but the lazy voice in my head says that if it's anything more than 2/3 fights to win the tourney then feck that.

How long are the rounds?

Think the rules will be like Northern Fight League.

No Knees or Elbows, GnP in, 6oz gloves, must include shin guards I assume?

You have mail James.
No if a fighter has fought Pro or Semi Pro MMA then they cannot fight in the Amateur class.
NSAC Weights are as you state unfortunately the weight classes for this tourney were set under WKA K1 rules. I would look to get the weight classes adjusted for future events to come into line with NSAC weights.

Sorry im lost.

Novice is for guys with no experience.

Amateur is for guys with no Semi Pro experience.

So, our Amateur fighters have to fight our Pro B class?

Guy that have fought Semi Pro are excluded? This type of Amateur is a step UP from our Semi Pro.

Think the progression of our Amateur, Semi Pro to Pro needs clarified.

The WKA/ NSAC Amateur is wot we call Pro B. Situated between Semi Pro and Pro. Way above that of our Amateur.

Hello Stu,

I was wondering about the mma event on the sat, can competitors just attend in the morning for a weigh in, registration, or does this have to be done online before the tournament starts??

And is the comp on sunday just kickboxing or is there a bjj tournament on also mate.

Like i said, very interested in attending but just want to clarify a couple of things first obviously. And the novice levels are open to 85 Kg+ - is this weighed in on the morning of the comp??

Cheers

Stu Innes

I discussed the Amateur rules with the WKA and was told that these rules are taken from the rules used at the WKA world championships. Due to the majority of people not wanting to use these rules and advice from other respected parties it has been decided that the amateur rules will be as follows.

1/ When standing, punches and kicks to the head are allowed.
2/ When standing punches, kicks and knees to the body and legs are allowed.
3/ When on the ground no head strikes are permitted.
4/ When on the ground strikes to the body and legs are allowed.
5/ Neck cranks, heel hooks and spine locks are not permitted.

I apologize for any confusion this may cause.

Weigh in for this event is 0930 Saturday 19th September at the venue, registration on the day is fine but if you can call Stewart to give him your details before hand it would be appreciated.

The Sunday is points Kickboxing and forms there is no BJJ tourney.

Anyone who wants to can enter the K1 or full contact Kickboxing tournament as well, this way if you get put out of one tournament you can continue in another.

Call Stewart on 07711725257 for further details.
