Although this makes referance to 'no gi' BJJ..i thought that i would post here..

i am training with a good purple belt at the minute and had my ass handed to me and was 'tapped' with venom today..:D

i hate getting tapped..not in the sense that i am a bad sport..just being caught annoys me..maybe thats a bad attitude but personally it helps my progression to get better..:o

anyway..back to my point..there is nothing like being tapped 'with venom' to show u that lots of work needs to be done..i came away limping and smiling to myself as i made my way to the car. I was humbled on a number of levels (not that i rate myself) and had developed a new list of new things to work on..

Good times..:D

I reckon that as long as you come away thinking about the things you need to work on then it's all good.

I had a shocker last night. I got tapped by a teenager who, like me, was also a no stripe white belt. What really stung was the fact that he was at least two stone lighter.

I don't know how it happened. I just got sloppy and got tri-angled. My ego didn't like it one bit. It stung, it made me seriously doubt myself and whether BJJ was for me.

I still don't know if it's for me but I'm a long way from quitting. My cardio needs improving and my class attendance needs to become less sporadic.

I always thought that the application of a submission should be gradual and safe. I'm also of the opinion that if you receive an injury from a submission, it should be your fault for not tapping soon enough eg. my shoulder injury from when I never tapped to JKs omoplata because I thought I'd be a smart arse and try to get out of it.

Getting tapped is a way that you learn. Why did I get tapped? How do I prevent it happening the same way in future? etc.

Stop being so fucking reasonable.

We're talking here about that most irrational of things, male pride. :D

Yeah but it's also ego and that will get in the way of your game developing.

ha, ha exactly...;)

no wiegie u r 100% correct..i drill escapes hard and i thought that i had the escaping of the technique as i sat there relaxed and then i got to the 'oh fuck' stage very quickly..

as i said..getting tapped is very humbling..especially yesterday and i came home and re-evaluted my game and the basics that i need to work on..

great...enlightenment:cool:
