View Full Version : Gameplan Team Tactics Deviation

I was wondering what fighters opinions are of those competing that don't seem to stick to their teams game plan and as a result lose badly. I do realise that this can work the other way whereby the fighter deviates from the plan but still wins.

Some recent examples include Bisping against Henderson-it is well known that after round one Bisping was told by his cornermen to stop circling to the right because he was walking into Henderson's punches. This advice was not taken and we all know what happened in round two. Bisping seemed to not be his usual self and I read recently in Fighters Only that maybe his game plan went out of the window when he realised the power of Henderson.

Another recent example (although in boxing) was Hatton against Pacquiao. Hatton was talking before the fight of how he'd changed his game and was getting much better at his movement and tactics. On the night he didn't appear to have changed one bit. His coach at the time Mayweather Sr emphatically said that he got beaten because he did not do what he was told. Personally I'll never forget the look on Hatton's face after round one as he sat in the corner. He looked like a man that knew what was about to happen with the gift of hindsight.

So is it some kind of fear or adrenal dump that makes fighters revert to this?
