Swansea is only 30 miles from Merthyr. I thoroughly recommend the drive :)

See these for details of the Chris Rees Academy (Gracie Barra Swansea and Gracie Barra Cardiff);

Chris Rees (head instructor) and myself train under Braulio Estima, 3 times Mundials champion and current ADCC absolute and weight champion.

I live in the Rhondda mate and am a blue belt under BJJ black belt Pedro Bessa

Pedro has a place at the WIS sophia gardens Cardiff and takes classes Mondays and Thursdays 7.30pm till 9.30pm and Thursday day 12.30pm to 2.00pm. Also BJJ black belt Leopoldo Pires takes classes there (he is at the moment as Pedro is fighting at the no gi worlds) - so the only 2 black belts in wales

Pedro Bessa Purple belt Greg Creel has just opened a new gym in Abertillery that does Jiujitsu, No gi, MMA and Muay Thai.

if you need further info let me know

hope to see you on the mat

I don't know the guy but if it's not BJJ it might not be what you want. Budgie, as mentioned above, is not BJJ but I believe his classes do include 100% sparring etc... not all JJ places do though.

I'm not aware of any Brazilian Jiujitsu in Merthyr mate.

Wrestling Sophia Gardens Tues and Thursday 6 to 7:30 olympic freestyle/greco-roman team ran long with the judo academy and Pedro Bessa.

I am fairly sure Chris Rees (Rob and my instructor) has people coming to the Cardiff classes from Merthyr so you might be able to out with lifts etc.

i know jason hes a very nice guy taught by nigel williams o yama do yawara ryu

http://merthyrjujitsu.co.uk/

im from merthyr and ive been to most of the merthyr gyms, it all depends what your looking for:

self defence the jason will teach you well but if you want to do MMA there is a gym in merthyr iron worriors which i know is ok.

i started training with heath over at falcons MA in blaena about 15miles from merthyr but its far better than anything you get in merthyr. falcons is an awsome gym with a real close bunch of lads (no big heads) and the training i second to none.
