Decided to buy some weights for my room, I cant really afford to stay at my gym so have to leave for a while.
Presumed I was just gonna go get plate weights but then seen all these variations and much cheaper plastic ones.
Is the more expensive plate/chrome worth the extra money?
Whats wrong with the plastic weight bar them being cheaper to make (im presuming).

An Olympic bar is 20kg and thicker so when you start lifting heavy it can take the weight. I think a normal Oly bar will take at least 300kg, possibly more, but worth checking.
The thinner bars like those you get in Argos etc won't be able to take anywhere near the same amount of weight.
As for the plates, the only thing which really matters is weight but avoid the plastic ones because they can crack and break. Cheaper metal ones may also break if dropped (especially on each other) but if you take even a slight bit of care of them they should be fine.

A basic Oly set doesn't cost as much as it used to. It's not quite as good as a powerbar but you could get a 150kg Oly set for as much as you'd pay for a powerbar lol. You can drop a loaded olympic bar from head hight to the floor if you have a platform that can take the shock, you couldn't do that with the concrete and plastic ones though. They'd disintegrate.

Ive got some metal plates (40kg in total) and a barbell and two dumbell bars, il take £45 for them plus the shipping unless you would want to pick em up.
Almost identical to this, bars and collers are Golds Gym and plates are Marcy
