Hi everyone.
AFK promotions have forged a reputation as being mainly a kickboxing /K-1 orientated series of shows.
For the very first time we have made a venture into MMA and it went down a dream with both competitors and spectators alike.
On this occasion we will once again have a fight card of Kickboxing (K-1 style as well as american rules) and MMA at the grassroots level.
The MMA for absolute novices on my last card were over 3x3 mins.
People would argue that 3x3 min is "not a real fighting duration" but it is to bear in mind that the matches are mainly for raw novices or people with less than say 3 fights. We all have to start somewhere.
If anyone would like to get involved then please get in touch on :

info_sheffieldkickboxing@yahoo.co.uk
Everyone is assured of a warm welcome.

Can we match ourselves up?
there's a guy at my club who's about the same weight as me and we're both looking to get into fighting mma. you said you cater for first time novices and it just seems like a good idea. it saves you the hassle of matching up fighters and it gives us an easy way of getting started. We'd give you a fantastic fight as neither of us could stand the stick we'd get at our club if we lose and it would be an easy way for you to add fighters to your card.

You can never guarantee a fantastic fight. What if you get knocked out in 2 seconds (or subbed reallt early). Hardly a fantastic fight.
true. but their unlikely to give in without being forced to, may lead to a high tempo fight. Plus they'll know each others strengths and weaknesses and strategies which may lead to them being prepared for the other persons fav. sub or their big right hook. obviously they can't guarantee a good fight but neither can anyone. I love rivalries, they are probably statistically more likely to lead to a better fight

You should fight Stubbsy as the main event.
are there any photo's or videos from the previous event?
is it in a ring, cage or on mats?

In the Boxing ring. You can find photos on :
www.fightnightsonline.com
(or is it .co.uk)
Its under AFK promotions.

Good idea. Will have to be K-1 rules though I dont practise MMA.
I dont think that "being on the receiving end" of a few submissions and a bit of grappling quite qualifies me for MMA. :D
I understand Stubbsy is like 14 or 15 stone (by his posts) I will probably be about 68-70kg on the day. I could bill that David Vs Goliath! Im hoping half the forum would come to watch?
With that kind of weight difference , I have won already.

it's .com as the .co.uk link doesn't work. however using the search function on the site with AFK promotions as the search term i yielded no results, even when i used just AFK there were no results. Is there an alternative place to view photos ect., am i doing it wrong or should i just use my imagination

Well this is what we have in ISKA. Generally ISKA amateur MMA bouts are 3x3 mins allowing punches to the head while standing.
Now because a lot of the clubs on the show are used to the whole "amateur means NO head shots at all" . We are willing to accomodate that rule set for novices.
Basically your one fight means one fight end of pretty much.
Obviously your opposing camp will be told that you had a fight that was "semi pro " rules.

Thank you to everyone who has put their names down.
We have some definite matches so far :)
We have a 100kg heavyweight matched 3x3 mins Amateur MMA
(it was great chatting to you buddy, see you on facebook ;) )
We also have a match or two at 77kg Amateur (same as above)
I am still hoping for Amateur matches at 84kg for MMA.
Both have had 1 fight (they fought each other , it went 3x3 mins ) im sure there is youtube footage. It was a cracking fight.
Im also looking for opponents for :
Andy Gabbitas = 65kg 1W-2L
Jacob Constantinou = 70-73kg , 2W
Again for 3x3 mins amateur MMA.

i will have a read over the rules when i get a second, and may be able to add some choices to the roster from our team.
just a quick word of warning, on page two there was a guy talking about matching up with a teammate, No organisation or promotion that wanted to be taken seriously would put two teammates up against each other unless it was an exhibition match that wasnt going to be on their record, this is usually done when someone is a no show, or just to fill the card out a little and give experience to the fighters.
In full contact arts, pairing up teammates to compete has led to cheating, fight fixing etc to buff up a record.

That guy was actually joking. I know which guy you mean , i believe they had a friendly match in a park or somewhere and the guy in question won. LOL
