Da Bones is good all round of course, but looking at him throw is something else, he arcs his whole body behind the technique and literally has his opponent on their back where he lands right into side control. I think it was one of these that popped Mark Hamills shoulder out.

What with Machida / Shogun still in the pipeline and this guy coming up the LHW its looking like one of the more exciting weight classes (in the UFC that is).

I think Hamill would've beaten him if he didn't hurt his arm. Quality fighter none the less.

thats pretty basic greco stuff its just done at a much higher skill level then most of the fighters in mma can perform them and most dont like to stray away from the basic leg attack. randy uses that foot sweep alot.

that kid has unbelievable greco..love to watch him as his skills are obviousy highly honed even if some see them as basic greco..

it would be great to perform these throws with the same proficency..maybe some day..:D

I think the last one is deffo greco wrestling.

But the first, second ones i'm pretty sure are judo:

Do Judo techniques translate well to no gi? I wouldn't have thought so?

please refer to the first post.

Posture, balance, kuzushi. Gi or no gi it all means the same.

OK, I just thought the grip that the gi gives would be missed. It is by me, although I'm just a newbie at all this malarki.

some of the techniques (eg the 1st 2 on the first post) work very well without the gi.

Learning the complete art would give you a better understanding of those techniques and how to use them. Clearly one wouldn't use the throws that are totally dependent on the gi, just adapt the ones that work well without.

The more I find out about Judo, the more I'm drawn to it. It hurts like hell though.

Imagine someone like Bones with a black belt in Jiu jitsu!!! That is the next evolution of wrecking machine in MMA right there!!!

Theyre not specific to judo and are fairly commonly used in wrestling.
That being said though... judo rocks!

call them what u will and we can debate origins..

but those are all techniques that are used in ''wrestling'' regularly..

Karo Parisyan has some good video's on no gi judo (loads on youtube)...the key seems to be using the clinch for leverage.

Fedor is another good one to see do this, a lot of opponents try to clinch up so he gets an arm under and then uses o goshi (hip throw) or like to get them down.

St pierre used similar techniques against Matt Hughes, Isn't Jones with Greg Jacksons camp now?
