We are pleased to announce that Tom 'Kong' Watson has this morning signed a 3 fight deal with Maximum Fighting Championships in Canada.

His first fight will be on 26th February 2010 at the River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton, Canada. His opponent has been confirmed as Travis Galbraith (15-6-0). The contract is partially exclusive, still allowing Tom to fight in his already contracted bout against Alex Reid in May.

With the likes of Thales Leites, Dean Lister and Travis Lutter in the MFC MW division there are sure to be some tough tests for Tom over the next year, but we feel he is up to challenge and with his new home at Tristar in Montreal we are sure he will be ready for whatever they throw at him!

He'd beat Lister, not sure about Lutter but he won't beat Lietes. Goodluck to him.

Nice work. Is this an exclusive deal or can Tom fight on other shows?

Does Tom have a title? If so, and it's an exclusive deal, does he vacate or somethig?

Good to see Tom doing well... exciting fighter and he needs the step up to interantional level now

He can still fight on other shows with the permission of MFC, however we have the Reid fight written into the contract so permission has been granted for this fight.

There has been no decision from Ultimate Challenge as to whether they will ask Tom to relinquish his title although I see this as unlikely as he still may defend it should an opponent who deserves a shot comes along.

They have a great MW division

Agreed. it's pretty solid. I really think Tom is ready for this. Opponents like Lister and Lutter and good value fights and good tests... excellent direction for Tom's international career

The top guys get paid quite well. Lashley got $30,000 for his MFC fight. That's the rare high standard. Their top international guys (John Alessio, Trevor Prangley, etc.) get about $7,000 or so a fight consistantly.

This is the organization that Paul Daley fought in twice.

I believe Tim Radcliffe signed for Ringside, which is also a Canadian promotion.

Isn't MFC fought in a ring?
I think they stream the fights live on the web site too
Its a good move for Tom-there is nothing left for him in the UK and although Lister, McDonald & Lutter are past their prime, still good fights and Leites is solid.

This upcoming show is the first one that will be streamed on their website. Normally there shows are just on hdnet. The February show however is not on hdnet so it will be streamed on their website for $10 I think it is.
