Love that pass but always think it's a bit weird when it's taught without mention of the triangle danger if you do it wrong.

Bruno is under strict instructions not to fight bud Roleta has told him he is here to teach.... or I know for a fact he would love to!
Ajaz ( brown belt ) has a shot back :-(
Fernando is back in Brazil preparing for his fight next month in Rio. But Fernando is VERY interested in competing in Europe

How do people find the technique varies if you grip the other side lapel? Obviously it removes the choke possibility but I find it can sometimes help cut down their movement a bit more.

Ditto. Why can't he compete and teach?
I have no idea and I cannot speak for Roleta but maybe its becuse he wants Bruno to put his full attentions into building Roleta UK and teaching his students?. other than that i do not know.

Its always good if the teachers get stuck in.
Braulio , Pedro , Dickie , Simon H for example all compete for their clubs.
Its a shame.
I tried this over sutton once ended up hurting my neck need to give it another go I think

When using the pass I would prefer my elbows to be in tighter. Triangle and Omoplata seem obvious from that angle. I also like to grip the collar palm-up and elbow down to stop him turtling, I prefer the position over attempting to go straight to the choke. Just an opinion.
Simon.

Whilst the academy was getting started it was important that as the only full time black belt Bruno didn't pick-up any injuries. The academy started from scratch about twenty white belts on the mat. It was seen a priority to get a the new beginners to a level of competence to create a base upon which the team could grow. UK competitions will not pay the morgage and the bills. The academy had to be the number one goal in the first 12 months.
Fernando is competing in Brazil in March (not sure when he's back in the UK). Bruno will also compete in the UK. Before coming out to the UK he won gold at the Rio state and silver in the Rio Open International (both at black belt). After 10 months on focusing on developing beginners he needs to get match fit again. Thus we are now doing more hard sparring with a personal focus outside of training beginners etc.

Roleta will not allow his students to do it wrong.
The risk of triangle is, therefore, academic :p

No matter who is teaching, beginners will always do things wrong.
