I've just been to Taskers Sports in Liverpool (and I think it's the best shop I've ever been to in my life) to look at mats and bags. £20 for a pack of six Jigsaw mats so I'll pick some up over the weekend. I haven't got a clue what bag to buy though.

I want to start using it for the Bas Rutten workout to start with, but I want to also use it to practice at home what I learn in lessons when I join a MMA gym.

The mounts are a bit too expensive for me, but there was a 5ft Apollo bag for £100 that I was looking at.

I don't really know what the different types of bags are for, and if some are better for just Boxing and others are better for Muay Thai, etc.

Any advice would be appreciated. Going to start kitting my spare room/gym out this weekend.

Check some other shops out mate before buying from the first one you walk in

Brackets ~ never buy off the shelf ~ if your close to Stockport I can recommend at great fabricator who will do a bracket for £ 50 and they are the business - if not then try any gate or railing makers - they only use top grade steel and weld the shit out of every thing.

Bag ~ as a start bag then you dont need beyound a 4/5 foot pvc £45/£55 each ( collection only )

Bag ~ advance / Gym standard ~ then your looking at a Sandee Leather Bag

I use pu for bag work and for general pick up and throw work.

I have 2 x 4 foot pvc bags that my students as well as me kick the sh-t out of and they hold up alright.

Floor Matts ~ a mate of mine is dropping some 40mm judo from his gym as he wants to go with a harder 20mm - I am getting the lot off him in a couple of weeks and even though they have been used they are in great condition - so if you collect then I will sort a good deal out. The basic ones are alright for yoga but not for any decent mma work and Decathlon do the basic ones in a 4 pack for £10.00

I am using a Blitz pvc 5 foot with the hooks cut off for pick up and drop work so it gets treated like sh-t and that is holding up really well

Thanks for the advice. There were pretty expensive looking brackets in there, but as you said, I could have one made. I work in a shipyard so I could get a plater/welder to knock a bracket together for me no problem. I saw some bags for (I think) £55 that were PVC about 4/5 foot. 5 foot I think.

The Judo mats were £100 each so I'm going for Jigsaw mats instead.

Think I'll order my Chin Up bar after the gym tonight and pick a bag/mats up after work tomorrow.

Thanks mate.
