Oh dear how embarrassing - gassing in the first round and resorting to butt scooping. Either a swift exit from the UFC or actually train for his next fight....

The worst stand up I have ever seen anywhere.

Rolles Gracie reminded me of… well, a typical Gracie in the early days, poor cardio, awful striking and sloppy awkward half-assed takedowns. Joey Beltran is a C Level fighter at best, he took the right on a weeks notice, I’ve got no doubt at all that Al-Turk would beat both of these guys (His wrestling & BJJ are streets ahead of Beltrans).
Thats the BJJ gods way of punishing Rolles for giving Rashad a BJJ Blackbelt.

It would seem karma at it's best.
Anyone have a link to the fight?

Rolles is to Muay Thai what Cheick Kongo is to BJJ.

Kongos ground game is better than gracies stand up.... lol im not sure how i can justify that or make it make sense but its true lol.. he is gna get a right spanking when he gets back to the gracie household
So all the belts he has handed out now seem a little bit less legit, Gracie is just a name and loads of them are riding on the name.

That was awesome, I liked it when he was both throwing left and right punches at the same time.
Have the excuses started yet ? he had a virus, he was injured in training 2 x weeks out, opponent was greased up, he was abducted by aliens etc etc ?

There is no excuse for Rolles to be in such poor conditioning. He knew he was fighting at 109 for months and had ages to get his shit together.
Beltran was the guy who took the fight on like a week's notice but you would have thought it was the other way round last night.
Al-Turk would have beat him piss easy I think judging from that performance.

al turk would have beat him so bad rolles would have to change his name

I can't believe they showed that fight. They had about 25 minutes left, I would've much preferred to see the Nover/Emerson fight.

I would have though anyone who is a blackbelt would have decent cardio even if they weren't preparing for a fight. To have many weeks prep and still be that out of shape is just bizarre.

Said before I thought Al-Turk would lose the fight, after watching that I am fairly certain he would have beaten Rolles Gracie, unlucky he wasn't able to fight him.
Gracie was truly shocking, his striking was some of the worst I have ever seen in a mma match at any level, his wrestling was atrocious and he had no decent ground defence whatsoever. One of the worst performances I have ever seen in the UFC, unbelievably poor, I wonder seriously what his training involved, I don't like to bash fighters but that was one of the worst performances I have ever seen in any mma competition ever.

I have to agree, that fight was a terrible standard for the UFC. How the hell was Gracie not in shape is anybody's guess, Al-Turk would have absolutely destroyed him.
Damn shame, the bloke being billed as carrying the Gracie name in the UFC just let their side down massively.

What made it worse was Joe Rogan screaming about how legendary his dad was and that the two top trainers in the game were in his corner.

True, they must have felt bad going out there to take him back into the locker room.

that must be the worst performance across all weight classes in recent UFC history [since Kalib Starnes anyway]... Al-Turk would've smashed him, and now has a much harder fight coming up in Madsen
if his surname wasn't 'Gracie' he'd be given his walking papers immediately, but i'm guessing he'll get another fight or 2

Shocking performance. I can only think he must have been ill or something in the history of combat sports there have been 1000 million excuses and a fair few of them are actually legit even though most dismiss them.

Here's a fight from the IFL and a grappling match from abu dhabi 2007 against marcelo garcia with a weird ending. There seems to be a level of speed and power to everything he does in the IFL fight even though his stand up and wrestling technique is horrible.

Didnt realise that his last fight (Beltrans) was against Houston Alexander. Beat him by TKO in the 2nd back in January

Was it just me or did it take a while for Renzo to get in the cage after the ref rescued him ( and us ) from taking any more??
I mean seriously there's no way he could be related to Renzo etc.. If I was his dad I'd be asking for a DNA test!!! :)
elliottgreenhill
07-02-2010, 09:20 PM
im not sure they will even boher with the DNA test. i think they are going to pretend everything is okay then renzo and co are going to grab rolles and bring him into the dessert and wack him... like in casino, with baseball bats and make his brother watch then bury him alive, :)

What would people be saying if he'd pulled off 1 of his sub attempts in the first half of the 1st round? I think he was expecting a quick sub? he looked good at the start, he totally expected to win with an early sub

too bad, with such a ground game and his frame and reach he wouldnt need to put in much work to be decent on his feet! especially at HW

He was a disgrace. Did'nt want to fight. He's clearly not a fighter at heart.
What would people be saying if he'd pulled off 1 of his sub attempts in the first half of the 1st round?Silly statement that could be applied to every fighter who's ability has ever been doubted after a bad display.

really looking forward to hearing some post fight statements on this subject.
He looked good for about 3 minutes...then it all went wrong.

Jesus, striking was slow, very slow. footwork and movements were stiff and awkward. why the fuck did he keep laying down on the floor?! The ref must have been thinking "wtf is he doing??"
Massively let the Gracie name down there, needs to redeem himself. Work on his standup, Ive got better standup than him and im not in the UFC, because i would embarress myself. Maybe he should consider this.

Rolles Gracie made his Octagon debut at UFC 109 on February 6, with a lackluster performance en route to a TKO loss to Joey Beltran in the second round.
His family member and trainer Renzo Gracie spoke with Gracie Fighter about the debut.
“It was embarrasing” said Renzo. “His stand up and ground work looked really bad, nothing at all like he was doing in training leading up to the fight and it was as if he couldn’t hear what I was telling him.
I think the pressure he put on himself overwhelmed him. He’ll learn and be back.”
