I really want to do this but my training is practically non existant while I move and if I don't find a decent club in Edinburgh I may have problems.
i'll definitely help out in some way though if I don't compete.
Much rather compete though.

Cheers Willie, the classes are getting busier and busier with lots of really good grapplers. Gimme a shout if you're through our way Frakes. 6-10ish every night and 1-4pm on a sat, as well as lunch time classes 12ish til 2ish, I dont go then so cant say exact. Shameless plugging.
Meat is there any plans for a nogi in Scotland at any point?

Mark connor never gets caught in submissions. He merely lulls you into a false sense of security and then punishes you for even thinking about trying to sub him

I've just started JJ at Griphouse but quite fancy getting into competitions sooner rather than latter. How do they work, are the divisions split by weight and belt (i.e. as someone that's ungraded would I only fight white belts in my weight category or is it all grades together just split by weight?). What's the standard like for white belts if it is split up, do most people train for ages before entering a comp? Lastly, I assume I'd need a gi? Any help appreciated!

Alright dude,
comps are split up by belt and weight, standard varies significantly as you can have some guys who have been training for a while but for whatever reason are still white belts or guys who are fairly new.

Cool cool, I've done a fair bit of Judo (although not for years) so I'm not toally new to grappling sports but I guess in terms of JJ I'd be the least experienced fighter there. Screw it, worst that can happen is you loose but its got to be good experience plus it is a local event. I'll speak to a few people at GH over the next few weeks to see if they reckon its worth entering or too early. Cheer for the help!

The technique classes at griphouse are excellent but sparring and competing are, to me, the best ways to really improve your skills. You pick things up in live rolling that you never notice when you're going light in the technique class.
At my first comp I was terrible but I learned an awful lot from it and got a bronze at my second one.
As long as you go into the comp with the right attitude, and you seem to be doing that, you'll have a great time, see some cracking matches and probably pick up a few ideas as well as meeting guys from different clubs with different perspectives on Jits.
This comp is very well organised and has attendees from Scotland and England attending. It's well worth giving it a go. If you don't feel comfortable competing, you should at least attend to get a feel for it. :)

Have you got any advertising material for this yet? We'd happily replace our Royce Gracie Seminar advert with a Glasgow Open advert if you do? The Royce advert will be out of date from tomorrow so if you do have something then please PM me and we can work something out -free of charge of course as we want to support local events as much as possible.
We have a home page advert on the right hand side of the page on www.fullmount.co.uk and an article with all the details at http://www.fullmount.co.uk/index.php/mma-news/1-latest-news/530-royce-gracie-seminar-announced-for-24th-july-2010

Guys thanks again for all those who supported the event, I couldnt have done it without you.
I have however come to a decision that the event on Saturday was the last I run for the time being. There are a number of factors in this decision but I feel I'm making the correct one. So thanks again to all those who have helped over the years in making the events the success they have been.
