Easy,
I currently train BJJ with Jude Samuel in Bethnal Green and Wrestle (freestyle) in Newbury Park. I'm looking to supplement my training with some thai boxing.
I was hoping to train with Paul Marchant at The Peacock but apparently he hasn't taught there since last October.
I went to the KO in Bethnal Green for their beginners class and was very dissapointed with it (especially as I'd heard so many good things). I found the instructor to be pretty un-interested in the class (kept walking off to talk to his mates at the gym) and got the impression that he'd pulled the short straw with teaching the beginners class. I also think the fact that you have to wear KO fight team t-shirts when you train a bit stupid.
So does anybody know of anywear good for Muay Thai? Diesel Gym is pretty expensive and I don't even know what the standard is like?
Any advise would be much appreciated.
well im going to be biased as i am one of those who teach the MT at Diesel but id like to think we manage ok
best way is to pop down and see what you think of it - drop me a mail or PM on here and can happily answer any questions
i dont think we are 'expensive' we have a great location a stones throw from canary wharf / docklands area and the monthly price enables you to train in MT every day, NoGi and MMA too unlimited times ...
a Wednesday is a good day if you are a beginner as i will take the warm up and some padwork basics and then usually take some of the fighters to ones side and allow our resident Thai to take over...hes had over 200 fights and was northern thailand champion and literally has MT in his blood so you'll never be overlooked.
However gyms are individual and all i can say is come along and watch - see what you think

I've tried Muay Thai at Diesel and I have to say I found the attitude of the coaches to be top notch.
I also have to say that I discovered that I really don't like training Muay Thai. In my opinion it's the finest striking art on earth, but I detest getting kicked in the thighs.
Really man, it's fucking horrible. Fuck that shit. Grappling is where it's at for me!!
thanks for the kind words Iconclast, sorry we couldnt keep your interest in muay thai though :-(

lol nah nothing to do with you guys. I was very impressed with the vibe, the attitude of the coaching staff, and the friendliness or everyone at Diesel.
I've tried Muay Thai at a few places and for me it's always the same story. If I take a hard kick to the thigh, I'm limping for a week. Which means no training for a week, which means me wasting my hard earned money because I'm paying a monthly sub to train but my legs are sometimes too fucked to walk, let alone take more punishment at a Muay Thai class. Psychologically I found myself focusing more on whether or not my drilling partner is going to cripple me, rather than the technique we were supposed to be practising.
I'm not talking about sparring here either, just drilling. All it takes is one overly eager beaver who is incapable of differentiating between what it means to drill a technique, as opposed to letting fly with all your might, and you find yourself unable to walk the next day!!.
This is the only reason why I've decided not to train Muay Thai anymore, because as a Martial art I love it. I just don't know how you guys do it week in week out.
Perhaps I'm just a wuss? Perhaps I've just been unlucky with the people i've ended up drilling with? Who knows? All I know is that I've given Muay Thai a good crack at a number of different gyms and it just doesn't seem to agree with me.

I have been doing no gi bjj at diesal and i must say its quality and i am even gonna give the muay thai a go cause i also went to Ko gym and it put me off muay thai. the reason for that is im not the smallest of guys i wont lie but isnt going to the gym to train supposed to help that and arent instructors supposed to instruct all different levels, @KO they dont. They me and this other fella in the corner just on pads and spoke to us about four times the whol hour and half.

I haven't trained at KO Muay Thai HQ in bethnal green so I can't comment on them, but I have trained at KO Muay Thai in Earls court.
It's on the small side and there aren't any bags to hit, but I have to say that the coach there, Damon, is excellent. Very friendly and helpful guy with a real structure to his classes and a genuine love of Muay Thai.
He really focuses lots on clinchwork which is something a lot of other places seem to neglect (from my experience).
Just avoid wednesday night as it's the conditioning class, if you're not superfit then you'll most likely puke.
guys - appreciate the positives about Diesel Gym ....
lets not turn this into a one gym is better than other type thread though purely out of respect for Bills KO Gym, they produce good fighters and we have a nice friendly (but respectful) east end rivalry....
gyms are always a very personal thing so only way to find the best (ie what suits you the best) is to try a cpl of places until you feel at home

With all due respect, that's bollocks; they train all levels at KO Gym and as such have a very healthy membership and consistently produce more top level fighters than the majority of gyms in London. The sole reason for both the above is the high quality of instruction and training provided by the team at KO. It's not a coincidence!
You may have had a bad expereince at KO, but that is not the expereince of most people who go their; as the ever growing membership and churn of quailty well schooled Muay Thai fighters proves.

I can recommend the mma clinic! It's in angel and romford and chris Carley is the best stand up coach I have ever trained under. He's ethic is top notch and he has a real winners attitude towards training. The mma clinic as a whole is a great place to train. Even my girlfriend has commented on what a great atmosphere we have there. Check out www.themmaclinic.com for time table etc.

@ tatcho.... I think you have just had a bad experience at KO to be honest... KO gym have the best female fight team in the country with around 6/7 of the female fighters ranked in the top 3 for thier weight division. David Paqcuette is one of the best out there at the mo and is 2 times world champion. Why shouldn't you wear ko t-shirts if your training in that gym?
Im not saying the other gyms are rubbish....but the head instructor at KO has trained and produced over 40 world champions and european champions. Speaks for itself really dosen't it.....
PS Diesel is only 5 quid more expensive if you pay monthly.
we have a few decent fighters also ;-)
can wear whatever t shirt you like - same for shorts...
if you didnt like KO, try us, try a few others see which fits you best

lol yeah that sounds like David. I had a few of his classes and decided never again.
He seems to spend most of the class playing with his phone. When he isn't playing with his phone he just swaggers around the mats eating a plastic container full of food chatting to people who weren't even in the class. I thought it was a wind up at first but apparently this was quite normal in his classes.
The head instructor, Bill Judd is a class act. An excellent coach and if you can get to any of his classes they are well worth it. Usually though the only classes that I could get to at KO were Davids and I just found the guy far too obnoxious so I stopped going.

I train at East London Muay Thai in Canning Town / West Ham. Small but friendly gym and Kru Simon knows his stuff. It's worth trying it out.

Preach that shit!! KO is and always has provided a top level of instruction and ALL of the coaching staff their are highly motivated in my expereince!!
They have produced and continue to churn out more top level fighters than any gym in London; it's not a coincidence!
