Newbie Question about Gi.....

1) Are BJJ Gi's and Jiu Jitsu Gi's the same thing ? (no subtle differences)

2) The Gi im looking at has a Jiu Jitsu Association badge on it. Will i be dragged by my ears out of the gym for having these on !? Perhaps i could remove it and put something more BJJ on it ? Im trying not to offend people and dont know if i'll be doing a massive faux pas.

1. Yeah all Gi's are the same. The only difference between a £25 Gi and a £200 Gi is the shops profit margins.

2. Put as many badges as possible from as many clubs as possible - shows you've done some research and have a passion for the sport. Any badges from other martial arts especially things like boxercise are also recommended - they show that you have a healthy respect for other arts and the need for good cardio.

3. Make sure you get a belt from JJB that matches the colour of your patches - just dont get a black belt - that is sacred but all other colours are encouraged. A white Gi is a bland Gi. BJJ is all about fashion (and a little bit of technique ;) )

it really shouldnt be a problem. Dont go overboard buying some mega expensive gi when starting out. There are some restrictions apparently on where patches are located on gi's from the IBJJF, but the manufacturers should account for this.
If you havent bought one yet, the obvious answer is to just buy a BJJ gi. But in truth, your not gonna offend anyone at all.

When you say jiu-jitsu gi, what do you mean? Have you got a link to a shop pic? From my experience, gis touted as 'jiu jitsu gis' are just heavy karate gis. BJJ gis are cut differently and the fabric is woven, and they are much tougher.

Remove the badge (I presume it is a trad JJ badge), go plain unless your academy insists you wear their team patch in which case be proud to represent!

TBF the best option is to buy a gi from your club.

1, You will be able to try one on so it fits.
2, It will be a decent quality.
3, It will prob come with a team patch ( you WILL want one )
4, It supports your club!.

I wore a Blackeagle Judo gi for my first lesson last night mate, only comment was it was very clean! Which it would be as it was new..

Traditional Ju Jitsu Gi's are a heavy material simular to a canvas feel.
BJJ are like a Judo Style Material so softer but very strong and cut smaller
Judo Gi's are longer on the jackets ~ but if your starting then its worth only paying £ 30.00 for a decent Judo Gi and then up grade as you train more or do comps.

Their are some great basic BJJ Gi's around ~ Blitz " Lutador " - MMA Universe do a gi called a Cyclon

Unless you are a blue or purple belt and above then dont pay £100,s of pounds on gi's and make sure you try it on or can return it back if it does not fit as BJJ Gi's do have a slightly slimmer fit.
