So I understand you need to wash the gi at lowest temp possible, says 30 on the label. Thing is the pants are a tad small and quite high up my leg, last thing I want is them to shrink any smaller. The jacket is tiny bit big so I'm guessing it would be ok to wash at 30 as it will shrink a little and should fit better.

How should I wash the pants to avoid shrinkage as much as possible ?

Cold water in the sink, bit of hand wash powder, push them up and down in the water, swirl them around and drip dry (i.e hang them on the line)

Cant say I'll be hand washing them so I'll go with the cold wash setting and let 'em drip dry. Cheers dudes.

Yeah I imagined stickin them on a radiator wouldn't be a good idea.

What brand are they?

You might be able to mention it to the supplier and if they are kindly, they might let you have a larger pair of trousers, or at least buy one at a discount.

Its a Koral gi from mmauniverse. It's been worn now so I cant send it back, never mind. Theyre not super short but can see them riding up my leg after a few washes haha.

Koral gis are pre-shrunk so it shouldn't be an issue. Mine havn't shrunk one bit.

i ushally have the opposite problem, the top fits fine but the bottoms are always really long in the leg so i always have to wash my gi tops and bottoms seperate, i cold wash the top and line dry it and hot wash the bottoms
its a pain but eventually i guess the legs will get to the length i want and i can just cold wash the lot.

.,....on that note. does anyone know of a good place to get adjustments done to a gi, like if i want the sleves shorter but the chest is fine? so obviously i cant solve that with machine was shrinkage lol, i dont want to risk a dry cleaners stitching as it will probarly not be as tuff as the original stitching? anyone know a company that specialises is martial arts equipment adjustments?

My Koral was too long in the sleeves, my wife picked the cuff apart, shortened it and re-stitched it all with a normal sewing machine and it was good as new, no wear and tear at all. So worth giving it a go if you have a missus who can do such things, if not, them high street tailors/dry cleaners are usually pretty god if you specify that you want triple stitching or such like.

Trust me ~ this is the problem with all Gi's no matter what make they are ~ because they are made to one reference you will find that top fits better than the bottoms.

I have customers that are bigger on the top so have to have a size 6 Gi but then the pants fit a 6.4" person but these peps are only 5.8".

I always tell my customers to wash the gi straight away and if it shrinks to much then bring it back as suits have a shrinkage value of about 5% on 40~60 wash or about 2% on 30 cold wash.

I would ring MMA Universe up and just explain your problem ~ they are a great company and may be able to sort you something out.

If your not botthered about the thinckess of the pants I do have some size 7 karate pants ~ I can send you a pair of them " For Free "- you will have to cut them down a bit but they would do you as a second pair to trash.

Koral pants shrik, a fair bit. I have an MKM and the trousers are short. The jacket is big though!!

Jamie thought it was a Keiko Raca then mate, if it was then I'm sure the person you bought it off would have done something for you :D :D

I did actually and his Koral didn't shrink either. :)

Have you got the MKM? The trousers are probably different to the Classic as they don't shrink at all.

wagon im not sure what to do with the keiko. The top is pretty baggy, the sleeves are too long and im guessing they are supposed to be pretty wizardy cos they much wider than the koral, the pants are perfect in length but baggy as hell im a 34 inch waist and they hang off me. Maybe wash it a few times ?

I don't use 30 instead 40 because most common microbes are destroyed at 40 degrees and not 30 and with things like staph that grow in sweaty gis, knee pads etc i don't mind sacrificing a bit of gi shrink if it means more hygiene.
