After reading a seperate thread about what generates KO power, I've decided to ask the above question. Now read it carefully, I don't want to see folk just writing about Heavyweights (although Ernie Shavers is ok) I mean across the whole 17 weight classes and throughout the history of boxing.
Tommy Hearns is in there, Julian Jackson, Gerald McClellan, Juan Manuel Lopez, Jimmy Wilde, Naz, Sam Langford, Kostya Tszyu, Sandy Saddler............ I wont keep naming them, I'll leave it up to everyone else.

Shavers was brutal.

I'll throw a few more in the mix:

Joe Louis, Mike Tyson, Marciano, Gatti, Pac Man

Edit as some more came to me:

Benn, Arguello, Trinidad, Mugabi

I would bet that tyson hit harder than Foreman, Naz is a great shout as well, boy had some dig on him!

But P4P best ever has to be Drago..... No?

Foreman was thought to be one of the hardest punchers of his time, would have been interesting to set up a power test, I think he would have punched harder than Tyson. Julian Jackson sticks out to me as a particularly powerful and concussive puncher. Seeings we're looking at P4P ratio its remember that its relative power not absolute, that being said any boxer who has moved through and up weight catagories and continued to knock people out would demonstrate good power. I always like Teofilo Stevensona and Felix Savon! Have a good weekend people.

My vote goes to Tyson. Obvious I know but I've honestly never seen power like he used to generate, that shot he hit Burbeck with was absolutely brutal.

are you serious

1. tyson was WAY past his prime for lennox and evander

2. buster wasn't a big fight, it was meant to be a piss easy win for tyson but he had gone off the rails

3. he had loads of big fights before those 3, what about berbick when he became the youngest heavyweight champions ever? what spinks when he became the undisputed champion? etc. etc.

One thing to point out is that when everyone talks about Prescott, it's fair to say that he beat limited opposition in columbia and then took out a Glass-Jawed Over-rated Khan. No doubt that he can punch but in an interview I've read with Kevin Mitchell, he says that our local lad Carl Johanneson hit much much harder than Prescott. BTW that got me thinking.... Michael Katsidis?

Romeoblood
03-07-2010, 02:46 PM
prescott didnt exactly have toi try when he beat khan, but that was nowhere near his best fight

he wiped the floor with like 18 guys, low level collumbians or not, he proper nailed them

also, katsidis is a good puncher as well though, I do agree there

tyson had plenty of power against the knowbodys like bruno and a coulpe of old men past there sell by date he lost nearly all of the big fights he had and blams everybody else for his down fall fuck him rapeist who was a good boxer between 85 n 1990 had nothing on evander or foreman he couldnt even win a round against danny williams then he went against the irish mug who beat him and he bites evander and lost to him twice he is a poor mans sonny liston

I would say at his peak he was better, he just fought on too far past it and was inactive too long. Being youngest ever world champ is a great achievement and a lot of it was down to his natural punch power

yeah but my point was that the heavyweight division was poor when he won the title iv seen nearly every fight he has had he is my second best fighter but he got a easy ride until buster i think , when sunny and foreman won the title they had more of a challengs on there hands

A very good puncher - his fight with the G Man is awesome (although watching it and knowing the consequences of the bout does take the shine off it some what.)

Freitas is a great shout. I'll throw Deigo Corrales (RIP) into the mix, a very long rangey puncher, who did infact KO Freitas.

Pac and Mayweather seem to have been left out alot what about these two guys, also no one had a better body shot power than Hatton in his prime, or the great Ali as knocking out Foreman wasn't easy like!

Pac is a great puncher, he really has carried it up through the weights. Mayweather on the other hand is never gonna be in anyone's list of big punchers. And Ali? A great fighter, not a great puncher. He didn't simply use brute strength to KO Foreman, he used a brilliant strategy to take away all of Foreman's advantages and rendered him unable to defend himself. Foreman's mother could have knocked him out at that point in the fight.

Yeah I agree Naz is a contender. Some of those shots he landed were brutal, he literally used to throw his whole weight behind them.
