View Full Version : Boxing's greatest fight?

In the aftermath of what turned out to be a good little discussion about the best punchers in boxing, this often asked question once again returned to my mind. Now, as we all know it's very hard to put your finger on your own personal best, so just throw a few out there.

The reason behind your choices could be Pure Excitement, Historical Importance, a Clash of Styles, an Unexpected Result, a Comeback, a Technical Masterclass, a Big Knockout etc etc.....

Number 1 for me has got to be Deigo Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo 1
Some more are Winky Wright vs Felix Trinidad, Sugar Ray Robinson vs Jake LaMotta 6, Benn vs McClellan, Hagler vs Hearns, Tony Zale vs Rocky Graziano 3, Leonard vs Hearns 1.......... Man I could go on and on.

Best fight I've EVER seen was khan v prescott

simple because of the look on khans face after he stood up from the first Knockdown, it was priceless! haha

I did enjoy watching Chris Eubank back in the day as well, he was the man!

rumour has it Christoper Eubank (Jnr) is gonna b boxing on the 2012 olympic squad, if hes half as good as his old man, then hes gonna be one to watch

this is never the case unfortunately. Sons, as far as i can recall, are never in the same league unfortunately.

Hagler and hearns was the most entertaining 3 rounds of boxing that i have ever seen!!

Floyd Mayweather jnr...

world class boxer (even if he is a bit of a knob)

I rest my case!

I do see your point though, he may not be as good as his old boy

hope he is though cus big chris was the dude back in the day, even for a boxer of his time(and there were many good uns) he was phenomenal!

Personally i couldn't have Benn vs Mcclellan purely because of what happened to Mcclellan during the fight. Kinda disturbing to see him deteriorate as the fight progressed(eyes, breathing etc) and especially knowing what state he's in now, still an amazing fight though. Shows he had crazy heart to fight on with a blood clot in his brain against a fighter of Benns caliber.

Always love to watch any Gatti fight, in victory or defeat.

Morales - Barrera 1 aswell.

i loved eubank vs collins, was just getting into boxing and you have this big lad with a shamrock cut into his hair under some kind of hypnosis, eubank coming in to simply the best like a big panther was special too.

i think boxing needs to bring back the big entrances like Prince Naseem, Chris Eubank and Apollo Creed :D

Foreman, Ali, Frazier, they all boxed in legendary fights. Which was the greatest boxing match ever? Was it the 'Rumble in the Jungle?' or maybe the 'The Thrilla in Manila.' Rate these great boxing matches on what you think was the greatest one of all. If there is a legendary bout that you think belongs on the list, Add it!!

Ward-Gatti I was hands down the best, pound for pound, and other clichés, fight ever. Goin slightly off on a tangent here, but no MMA fight is ever likely to come close - not because of some pointless Boxing > MMA argument - but it was 30 full minutes of intensity during which neither man would give an inch, and either man could have won going into the 10th. I'm getting emotional thinking about. I'm not gay or owt.
