Fedor Emelianenko (31-2 MMA, 1-1 SF) will in the coming week decide what his immediate future holds in Strikeforce, according to a source close to the fighter.
While speculation on Emelianenko's next opponent has centered around current heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem or a rematch with Fabricio Werdum, the source said a contest with Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (14-2 MMA, 1-1 SF) on Dec. 4 is currently on the table for the Russian's final fight on his current Strikeforce contract.
Strikeforce has yet to determine a city or venue for the Dec. 4 event, and officials could not be reached for comment.
Emelianenko was stopped for the first time in his career when Werdum submitted him in 69 seconds at "Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum." His only previous loss was on a technicality when a cut rendered him unable to continue a fight with Tsuyoshi Kosaka in December 2000.
The submission loss knocked him from the No. 1 spot he previously held on most top-10 lists.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker earlier told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Emelianenko's return date has not been determined, though he said it would likely be "later" than the promotion's next major event, which is currently planned for Oct. 9 in San Jose, Calif.
Coker also told Sherdog.com that Silva was among three fighters (along with recent signee Sergei Kharitonov and Overeem) under consideration to meet Emelianenko.
Silva most recently stopped former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski by decision in May's "Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery."
Emelianenko signed a three-fight deal with Strikeforce this past August after intense negotiations with the San Jose, Calif.-based promotion and the UFC. He made his debut this past November when he stopped the previously undefeated Brett Rogers at "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers."
Silva was outpointed by Werdum on the main card of the CBS-televised "Fedor vs. Rogers."

If it goes ahead on that date then it will be the same night as the TUF finals with Team GSP vs Team Koscheck.
Dana's gonna love that.Probably means we'll get a nice main event for the TUF finale too.

I don't want to see this fight.
I hate to say it, but I think Fedor is ducking Overeem!

First of all, you don't hate to say it, you are absolutely relishing saying it, be honest! lol.. Secondly, Overeem was meant to be matched up with Big Foot Silva, or that was the rumored intention, and Alastair has recently said that if his next opponent isn't Werdum, then he's going to fight in the K-1 OWGP instead, hence this fight has been put forward. I'm at work so can't get the interview but should be easy enough to find.
Having a champion fight 2 guys coming off losses in a row doesn't make sense, so these 2 fighting it out first makes a load of sense. I thought it'd be an easy smashing for Fedor, but Silva really impressed me with his dismantling of Arlovski. Might provide a bit of nervous excitement but only en route to the inevitable result.

how exactly? apart from a fight with barnett in dream, silva is the only fight that makes sense for fedor at the moment. overeem cant exactly have two guys coming off loses to defend against and werdum won the chance to fight for the title by beating fedor so apart from the barnett possobility which i mentioned there is no one else apart from silva for him to fight until his strikeforce contract is up.

Who cares about fighting two guys coming off losses?
Overeem Vs Fedor is the only fight that I want to see.

In an interview this week, Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem hinted that if Strikeforce doesn't offer him Fabricio Werdum that he is going to fight in the World Grand Prix instead.
"Being Strikeforce champion, I will defend my belt. It depends if Werdum is available to fight. If not, I will think of entering the K-1 Grand Prix."

that's not much of a call out. He wants to fight Werdum next, not Fedor, and you or I wanting to see it otherwise doesn't matter at all! We'll see that fight, but we'll have to wait an extra few months to a year to get it.
As for who cares if they're coming off a loss, well if you'll cast your mind back to Overeem v Rogers, everyone, apparently.

It sucks that we can't get to see Fedor fighting more often than this. Also fucking ridiculous that SF can't get guarantee their HW champ a fight.

You can't put a legend like Fedor is the same boat as Rogers.
Overeem Blasts Through Rogers, Calls Out Fedor:

“His management declined for him to fight me tonight,” Overeem said. “Respect for Brett, ’cause he stood up and wanted to fight me like a man. I think now it’s Fedor’s time.”

Strikeforce are just Shitting it incase Fedor loses again, its an absolute joke if he doesnt fight Overeem or Werdum next.

he's lost already, the 'unbeaten' angle has sort of been taken out.. they've still got a big money revenge fight, but with Werdum being out till 2011 at least, Fedor needs to stay a bit more active.
imo this is the perfect fight to (hopefully) ensure he rebounds from the loss in impressive fashion against a rising/top opponent, then the Werdum re-match and/or Overeem fights make a lot more sense/have more behind them. Silva also gets a lot of credit and hype behind him if he manages even a good couple of moments against Fedor, as Rogers did, so it's win-win either way really. Fedor needs an opportunity to prove it was a 'fluke' (tactical error/lapse in judgement) but Strikeforce can't keep him on hold, or dishing title shots out to guys who've just lost! even if it is Fedor, and you won't find a bigger 'nut hugger' than me lol

I would buy the big money if the fight was on PPV, but it won't be.
You got Overeem himself saying Fedor ducked him.
Zanmato

overeem thinks everyone is ducking him... he's a legitimate threat to anyone in the division, but he's only recently got a win that backs him up as anything more than a bit of a prospect... prior to the fight with Rogers he didn't have the provable credibiltiy of other fighters out there
i'm sure overeem said, after fedor lost, that he was no longer in the mix, so i had assumed his sights were set elsewhere..
also, why take overeem's word for it over anyone elses!? he's in a position to gain from that statement isn't he
i'm sure Strikeforce will be on PPV eventually but they need to build up to a big card like that, maybe in a year or two of big cards & hype/star building

Hmmmmmmmm, I just don't know.
Fedor was king when the best HWs were between 230-240lbs.
Now the best guys are 30-50lbs bigger. That's a big increase in size and power.

i have to unfortunatly agree with mr churchill here!! im a huge fedor fan BUT??? how would werdum/rogers/overeem cope in the ufc heavywieght division! Answer not very well????? I doubt these guys fedor is being matched up with would stand a chance in the ufc?? I doubt anyone of these guys would seriousley mount a title challenge???
