My current Nike trainers are shot; can anyone recommend a decent pair of training shoes??

I've been looking at Nike (obviously!!) and also New Balance...anyone got any other good ones?

Gel Nimbus 11 (http://www.sportsdirect.com/asics-gel-nimbus-11-mens-211086?src=google)

New Balance 1124 (http://www.newbalance.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=NewBal_Prod_Asset&childpagename=en_UK%2FNewBal_ProductCatalog&cid=1222118534662&packedargs=locale%3Den_US%26site%3Den_UK%26siteid% 3D1222118523759%26style%3DMR1224ST&pagename=NewBal_Wrapper)

I can vouch for these 2 shoes, have had both pairs (using the numbus' now) but had the New Balance before. If I'm honest i will go back to the NB as they seem to be superior, better cushioning (like running on clouds) and more hard wearing, as i use them for running up the hills and on the beach as well.

Nike Free (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3075079?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_pla=shoes:men:athletic&cm_ite=nike_%27free_7.0_v2%27_running_shoe_%28men% 29:284759&cm_ven=GoogleUK&mr:trackingCode=A640A3B7-C291-DF11-827F-002219319097&mr:referralID=NA)

I was looking to try these out (with the craze of barefoot running etc) But a mate of mine has them and says they're the best running shoes he's ever had. But that they're no good for fell running, or on the moors, so i will keep my NB ones, and get these purely to try out for road running.

Your best bet is to get to somewhere like up and running and get on the treadmill. They record the way your foot lands (over pronate/under pronate/neutral) and they will give you a pair of shoes, specifically tailored for the way your foot lands, to prevent injury.

Hope this helps fella.

Cheers for the advice lads. I'll be going down the local running shop to have my gait assessed on their running machine...

Id go for Asics or Brooks Dave.
Try different shoes on and see what you like best.
In most good running shops there is a treadmill and a gait analysis which will determine what shoe is best for you either neutral or support. If you go in and ask to be shown either shoe and they dont know what your on about then i wouldnt buy from there as the wrong shoe can cause many injuries.

Thats what he's going to do i think bro. Its the best way imo, nothing worse than the wrong running shoe, for injuries.

The running shop will sort you out no bother dave. See how your foot lands etc.

I got a cheapish pair of Asics and they were a massive improvement on the five or so pairs of nikes I've owned in the past.

Ok just back from the running shop and it's scary looking at how your feet work whilst running in slow mo!!!

Spent a good 40 minutes having my gait analysed and trying various recommended trainers and settled on a set of Saucony ones which are dead comfy. Will be giving them a serious beasting over the weekend and wil let you know how they stand up

WOW Surprised you chose that kind of cushioning system over a gel, like Brooks or Asics.
At least you got them sorted

So was I, but I tried a few on and ran on the machine with them too. These were not only the comfiest for me, but also improved my running too.
