View Full Version : 1 punch, £1.2 million = Disgrace!

It was reported that Audley Harrison made £1.2 million from the fight tonight based on £750,000 from his share of the PPV sales and the rest made up of normal ticket sales.

I, personally see this as an absolute disgrace how someone can turn up and land 1 solitary punch in nearly 9 minutes of a boxing match.

I understand sometimes there are tactics but this to me is unacceptable.

Why cant they be paid based on something like % of punches landed?

A lot of people do when at work they have KPI's (key performance indicators) they need to acheive or get an incentive bonus

Audley always knew that that money would be winging it's way to his bank regardless of what happened in the fight. It takes the excitement out of a lot of Boxing match-ups and i'd much prefer to watch MMA where you know that the fighters will give their all, there's nowhere to hide and they offer bonuses based on sub/KO/fight of the night etc

Rant over.....:D

Did you see his post fight interview? Apparently it was some kind of laughable 'gameplan' where he intended to rope-a-dope Haye until later in the fight. It was stupid on so many levels. Firstly he was never going to survive an onslaught from a puncher as fast as Haye for very long. Secondly, for a man who has been accused of being negative and lacking heart his whole career he had everything to gain and nothing to lose from getting stuck in, even if he got knocked out in the first round after going for broke he would have got more respect than for that shamefull display.

I am more disappointed in myself. my first reaction to the match being made was of shock and disgust, then I bought into the hype and the boxing romantic in me thought fraudley may just have a chance. He never had a chance but I, among with many others fell for the PR and his bullshit talking. The biggest waste of money ever!!!

He did talk a good game but then everyone does pre-fight. It wouldn't suprise me if he asked Audley to help him train for a potential Klitchko fight as he is tall and has a good reach. He would have to learn to land a punch though as it wouldn't be good sparring for David!

Audley's gameplan was so far off it's laughable.
All through the first rounds he was terrible on so many levels. Didn't work the jab and didn't attempt to control the ring. Even fighting defensively we should have seen the basics from him.

Maybe if he had tried to corner Haye and thrown a couple of one-two's we would have seen a better contest. Haye was always going to win, no doubts but c'mon. 1 punch in 3 rounds? He never had a chance. He's gone through a training camp for nothing.

audley earned every penny

Mr Warren and Sky built him up as a credible opponent which to the educated is ridiculous. However plenty of people paid there PPV money / and sponsors lapped it up due to the promotion/publicity - people paiud to go watch live or via tv...

got nada to do with ability - or punches thrown....

This talk about withholding his purse is a joke.

He gets paid for all the training , promotional work etc he's done plus enough people involved in the event have made money from it. Its irrelevant how long the fight lasts. Nobody forced joe public to buy into the hype.

I agree with the above. He deserves that cash cause he drew sales but that's only a business side of things. His chances of drawing another payday like that have been damaged by his performance. Unless he was set on this being his last fight I'm at a loss as to what he was thinking.

I think we all know that that was his last fight!. I know there is more to it than just what happens in the ring just glad I didn't contribute to his purse and buy into it.

Why all the hate for Harrison? ..

.. It's not as if he has hurt anybody.

Also i disagree, a £1m purse would suit him quite perfectly.

My mate put £20 on David Haye to win after he heard the odds were 1/6. He thought he was going to get £120 in returns, I had to break it to him that he was only going to win about £3!
