Hi all! I am a bjj blue belt and have moved away from my bjj gym, I have only got a judo club where I currently live so I have taken up judo in earnest! I can already tell that it will help my bjj in terms of top game and speed in going for and applying submissions due to the 30 second limit on the ground!
I know we have some guys on here that know their Judo, so I was wondering if they have any general advice?????:D

Make sure you understand how the balance is broken when applying each throw. Is the balance broken to the heels or is the uke (receiver of the throw) pulled up onto their tip toes? Is uke's weight evenly spread through both feet or is more weight put onto a particular leg?
Then make note of the hand action. Are the hands pull, or pushing? What grip is used? What is the direction of the pull or push? Often you'll note the pull / push is amplified by body movement first.
Then look at the body movement and footwork. If you can grasp the underlying principles behind the throws you'll learn judo much much easier and faster.
When doing standing randori in the early days you should train really light and fluid (almost throw for throw). This will enable you to learn the techniques faster and better. If you just lock horns with 100% resistance in every randori from day one progress will be slow.:)

Judo is great, but it sucks for injuries. Especially of you're a big guy.
I know that if you breakfall correctly, being thrown shouldn't really hurt. But drilling them over and over again leaves you pretty sore next morning.

Hello, new poster but Ive been doing judo since I was 7 so I know a bit about it. Most important tips? Probably remember to bend your knees, get your hips in properly and always keep your head and body turning when your throwing someone.
Breakfalls shouldnt hurt that much when youre drilling them? Or maybe Ive just killed all my nerves and dont notice anymore!
Oh also, keep loose, I hate fighting guys that are really stiff, all being stiff does is stop you going for attacks yourself.

make the most of tachi waza and try and come away from ne waza...80% of competative judo is nage waza.
this should be an opportunity for you to develope the other side of jujutsu, other than ground work all the time.
you might eventualy find yourself more comfortable on your feet than on your knees.
the ideal situation i guess would be to become comfortable off both your feet and knees.
dont be afraid of getting thrown! your grip fighting will deveelop if your getting thrown a lot!
