Hey guys, basically i've started using protein shakes in the mornings and after my gym session. The only problem is the large amount of milk i am consuming has made my face blow up, i have so many spots it's unreal!

I've been drinking loooads of water too, trying to calm it down. Just seems the milk is making it so bad I'm considering stopping the shakes... not sure if it's just the dairy in it so might try soya milk.

But anyway, what else can you mix protein powder with? With water it's disgusting, but i don't know how else to do it without something dairy based that will mess up my face!!

cheers

When you say 'Large amount of milk I am consuming'.... How large are we talking here?

Oh, okay. Is it full fat milk or skim? And does your face usually blow up if you have it any other times? Can't say shakes taste that great with water but I, personally, wouldn't sacrifice the shakes because of the effect the milk (if it is the milk) might be having. They're essential to training, dude. If you don't mind me asking, what protein powder are you using?

Make it with less water than you would milk and down it.

I had no milk today so had to make porridge with water, i mixed in a scoop of protein (no milk for shake) which helped with the taste but was still rank.

The nutrition guy at my gym told me to have shakes with milk in the morning (full fat too as your body needs the fat aparantly) but with water after training.

Ross is correct the best way is with less water and just skull it down fast.

How many shakes are you having? I was doing 4 a day when I was training for my fight. Milk in morning 400 mls with 2 scoops. Then with water after lunch time and evening training. And then 1 with milk before bed.

I've got the Whey protein percision engineered banana protein. And yea milk, chocolate, that sort of thing normally makes my face bad. I've been using 1.5-2 scoops with near 150ml of water so it's kinda thick and not as bad. So hard to force it down though, it's still disgusting!

could be the whey protein rather than the milk... i know some people who it doesn't agree with. could try soya protein instead. if you defo think its the milk you could switch to goats milk
out of interest whats the rest of your diet like? do you eat fruit, veg etc?

My diets not too bad, i eat a decent amount of fruit but could use a bit more veg. I know it's the milk because when ever i have just a drink of it or chocolate i wake up with a few more spots on my face! :(

i don't know about your body needing the fat but the nutrients in milk are fat soluble so skim milk gives you very little of the nutrients people drink milk for, raw milk FTW or failing having raw milk at your disposal whole organic is a good choice and readily available, also corky are you not maybe slightly lactose intolerant?

I find whey protein isolate tastes better than just whey - but its all down to taste, got some whey in at the moment and it tastes rank with water so I either chuck a bit of fruit in with it or if i am lazy, some cordial - just enough to get rid of the rank taste...

I have it with water. Milk can affect the digestion. It depends on your goals though.

Gaspari Myofusion and PhD Pharma Whey HT+ both taste great with water, some of the cheaper ones from Holland and Barrett do taste rank mixed with water.

try "rice dream". its a rice milk designed for vegans but actually tastes better than normal milk (not to mention 1000x better for you).

I still think you're a fag for not drinking it with water though. Man up!
