What are everyone's thought on this? Morally reprehensible or just a fact of life?

No issue with it.
The previous Government's positioning over Libya was morally reprehensible however.

There probably isn't any better option anyway to be fair. Any local companies would defo be on the rob for as much as possible.

No disagreements here.
However, I really think that no matter how corrupt others would have been this is very poor. Firstly, it makes a joke out of the reasons proposed for intervention (humanitarian efforts), and secondly it adds more credibility to reasons why the non-western socities disrust the west. It seems that west/east tensions are realted to money, oil and distrust.
There are no clear reasons why we entered here and have not looked into other countries where similar circumstances are occuring in regards to revolution.
Stinks of impearialism.

Everyone knows it's about oil. It's no secret really, just cos the govt deny it makes no difference.

Oil and lucrative building and construction contracts - thats why we create wars and thats why we live in such a morally fantastic economic enviroment. Look at DICK Channey and Halliburton - fucking wankers made billions in Iraq and by incarceration of as many people as possible in the US (three strikes and your bkack and your fucked) so they can build jails and benefit from the free labour - seriously stinks
Who else would you expect the contracts to go to under these circumstances?

You r right Envy - situation is very different but still is a bit odd - remember that Tony Blair was seen holding Gaddaffis nuts not long before the war and only a month previously a bunch of sheepish British arms manufacturers and diplomats where out there selling him weapons... just saying - its those same fucks who will reap the rewards
Agreed but this was different to Iraq in so much it was led by the countries own population - they were not after oil, they just wanted a scumbag out, granted the west probably helped spark it off but the world is better off without him regardless of the motives for his ousting, but big modern countries will always prosper in times like this because they can get people there quickly, offer security for the workers etc and have done it before, I doubt the likes of Lichtenstein will be tendering for those jobs, plus I do seem to remember the interim government agreed prior to the end of the war that they would offer contracts firstly to those countries who helped them before anyone else, which is fair enough I suppose.
Plus the simple fact is - the US and UK are the big players in country rebuilding these days because they are on site fucking them up first so have plenty of knowledge on what went where anyway!

Errr, lets not forget that we did not bother with Libya BECAUSE of oil contracts and weapons deals. We benefited at the expense of the Libyan people by supporting Gadaffi to the extent of giving that fucking mad man cardonblanche to murder thousands of political prisoners

Granted, but the yanks trained Bin Laden's lot as well, things sometimes change, sometimes its about the money, well its always about the money but here is hoping he is not the last dictator the western world put an end to regardless of the reasons why.
