Hands Of Stone

I have been beaten on almost every UK show you can think of. I have been knocked out or stopped in every round from the first to the fifth. I am susceptable to many, many different submissions and have been choked unconscious on more than a few occasions.
Any questions any of you budding MMA'ers may have on the golden rules of getting up, dusting yourself off and starting all over again, please feel free to inquire . There is nothing about losing which I do not already know. Fire away.

Thank you,
The Hands.

lol at jenkins- :)

mr hands- when tapping out to a submission such as armbar/keylock etc, do you prefer the verbal tap "arrgh, yes!", the quiet tappy tap of just the fingers so that only the ref can see and no-one else knows whats happening, or the "snap" of limb?

Well done Paul, and welcome aboard. As your post describes you have earned yourself great respect by many, and your experiences will be a great help to others.

Definitely the verbal tap "arrgh, yes!", cos once the ref has broken the fight up I always claim the "arrgh, yes!" was an aknowlegment (sp?) of good technique and not a submission at all, at which point I take the moral high ground and cry like a bitch. And I harass Sherdog to get the fight taken off my record.

Thank you,

Paul as you seem totally unbothered about losing would you go down in the first round after one punch if I agree to make my cage fighting debut against you and purse?

:D

It would be my honor. Given that most people don't even have the manners to ask before they knock me out, it would be equally rude of me not to 'lie down' for you, having being asked so politely. Plus if you could get a nice bit of betting action hitting on the side, then we could clean up sweet and take the next few months off work. Everyones a winner...

Hmm sounds like a good idea. I would only hit softly anyway, as this is the best I can do considering my ability. Possibly a stiff jab or even a no contest slight front kick to the balls.

lmao @ jenkins.

Which side of the face is it best to get hit on? I can tell you've obviously gone past caring what you look like but some of us are still aiming to be midget models. What areas will get you knocked out early but leave you looking like a stud afterwards?
:fight: :boxing :bash

Rob the answer is simple, a swift hit to the groin made to look unintentional.

Hands Of Stone

Neil, FFS, how do you hit a midget like Rob in the groin and still make it look unintentional !

Rob, regarding getting sparked and keeping your studish good looks, I would recommend getting clocked hard, clean in the back of your head. Maybe the force of the blow would push out your beady pig eyes and put some 3-D depth to your flat-assed nose.

I have chosen to walk the path of the Buddha. The middle way.
Any knock I take from the right, corrects the damage incurred from the left and visa-versa. Ergo.......I'm hot - your not !

Thanks for that insight paul, however a kick to the groin could easily be mistaken for a kick to my legs due to their stumpiness.

There's nothing wrong with my nose, just cos it's not a welsh honker from years of inbreeding and sheep molestation.

I butted someone into oblivion a few night previous and had real headache/sight problems. The quack people in the horse piddle suspected haemorraging (sp?) so tried to keep me in for the specialists till Monday. So I done a runner. :woo

Jenkins apart from being a "nutter" :D who spotted the joke!!
your also a lazy twat!! butting him and risking displacement of the valuable few brain cells you have left when you have a perfectly good pair of "Hands of Stone"

Get back in & get it checked

out of interest, how long have you been fighting Vale tudo. I notice you don't use your legs much, but you have a kicking background if I'm correct, any reason why?

Hands Of Stone
28-02-2003, 01:48 AM
I been fighting VT, for about three years. Before that a 100% stand-up background. I've got a cracking low kick and I use them a fair bit but it's horses for courses when to use them. Some opponants lend themselves to getting hacked at, others don't, so some scraps I'll be whacking away at the legs all day and others, like the last one with Gaz R, you won't ( I dont think I threw a single kick last time out).
Plus, regardless of how tough my shins are, they will collect some kind of damage in a scrap and cos I tend to go straight back into the gym after a show, wrecked shins will always effect my sparring/pad/bag work. So I use them sparingly if I know they won't have time to recover.

Cheers,
The Hands.

Cheers for that, NinjaWarrior :D .
My and Andy fight like fuck all the time & I just treat him like the wind and the rain - He's gonna happen so lets see how much storm I can throw back.
Plus, if I can hang with Andy (he's probably the same about me) I can rock with anyone in the country, so all in all, we're good for each other.
Ahh, group hug....???????

It's difficult, but in the opposite way. I often have trouble switching into fight mode, which is why I seem to get stronger (typically) in later rounds - I'm such a retard, who spars hard anyway, that it's not till I've taken a few wake up knocks that I remember it's 'for real' :D .

Yeah, W. It is good that the lack of 'nerves' is one less thing to think about but agin, the downside is actually getting my ass up and into gear so I perform to the best of my ability.
I'm definitely 'performance' driven rather than 'result' and I've lost some of my favourite fights but I fight for fun and to have fun so pure 'result' is secondary to my other psucological drives for getting in there. The number of fights I've had, in all formats, has allowed me to become accustomed to the pre-fight mind-fuck and it's just killing time & socialising now. It can't be good for an opponant, seeing you walk round stress free and level. It just says 'Ready' to him.
As for advice, take as much time to study yourself mentally before the fight as much as you do pysically during the fight and you'll start to notice mind-sets and patterns that develop before every fight. Once you can recognise them, you've given yourself an opportunity to control them and use them as a tool for getting 'battle ready'. Basically, I realise that whatever I'm going through, theres a guy in the other changing room going through exactly the same thing & I'm gonna handle it better cos it's part of the battle and as I'm naturally competitive, I even want to win the 'nerves' battle.

' I'm nervous cos it's natural to be nervous. You're nervous cos you're in the shit !!!'

As for losing. It's simple. Smile.
To many guys walk round looking 'mean and moody' after they've lost. To little, to late. It's gone, you lost. :D
If someone in the street falls over, everybody see's this. If the guy on the floor looks like thunder, everyone takes a wide birth. If he laughs at himself and his situation, he'll find no end of people willing to help pick him up.

John, never studied sports psych at all, which is why if you have, some of the angles may seem familiar but the language a bit pleb... :D . Most of my 'internal issues' I address through Buddhist (typically Zen) principles and through actively 'pushing the envelope' all my life.
I've run a nightclub door 5/6 nights a week, for 12 years and competed in one combat sport or another for 18 years so I've picked shit up about fear management as I've gone along....
Don't really practice the mental side of things through visualisation or anything else. It's just the way I am, flat out couldn't-give-a-fuck

Team Quest#1. If you got my record of Sherdog, then you can add a few more wins & losses to that. A lot of the smaller shows I've fought on don't network with Sherdog so my record is about (I stopped keeping records about 2 years ago :) ) 22 wins, 12 losses and 1 draw.
I'm 5'9'' and weigh 76kg at the moment but I'm looking to get down to about 74kg by the new year.
As for you, Mr G...
'Have you really shagged sheep, and how does it compare to girls?'
I don't shag sheep, I make love to them. ALL mammals need that someone special and love knows no species. And how do they compare to girls ?
Wassamadda wit choo, you some kinda sicko. Girls for offspring, sheep for comfort. Women are for procreation only!
