Recently I have started to pick up the odd Minor concussion , I use protective headgear but it hasnt helped. Its happened twice in a matter of weeks, dizziness and vertigo.
Any help would be appreciated, i havent gone out or anything like this, it tends to be an hour or so after sparring , Boxing.. thanks
Hi, I would stop sparring and get it checked out by an appropriate medical professional, and stop drinking alcohol (it thins the blood) if you are.
Headguards do not stop concussion, although they can help protect your head if you fall over. They do help stop minor cuts and abrasions however, which is the good bit.
If you are unsure, or if concussion effects are regular, ALWAYS get it checked out by the appropriate medical professional. There could by any number of reasons why, from underlying issues, through to viruses, through to ear problems, through to not recovering from the previous concussion.
So book in mate, don't take chances with your head. - its probably nothing, but always worth checking.
Thanks Gary , is this just a case of going to see my Doctor and hoping he can refer me to someone who specialises in head injury ?
Yep, though note that a doctor may just say 'rest and don't do that sport', so you may have to be pushy with him to get the result that you need.
You could explain the issue, what has happened, what is your sport and you will be continuing to do it, however you need to know that this is a one-off occurance and that you haven't got another condition.
If he just says general stuff, then ask him whether he can do the checks whether it is just residual concussion, or whether there may be swelling, or whether there are other issues like eye or ear issues like labrynthitus.
If he just says might be etc, you could then ask him to do the checks, or if he is not fully aware of everything around these symptoms to refer you to someone who does.
Remember your doctor is a 'general' practitioner, and may not have experience in these areas.

Don't piss about with head injuries mate, take you time with them and get it sorted.
How's that bonce of yours, how's the noggin?!?
Went to the doctors on Saturday mate, they did a few tests on my neck and ears and said it was to do with a previous infection in my ears and sinus. Because I didnt let my ear heal last time or the infection go and then went back to sparring to soon it has caused the same problem again. Its to do with the crystals in my ear not reacting or moving quick enough which then causes dizzyness. Atleast its not my head which is good news
Got to give it 4 - 6 weeks before i go and do any sparring again which involves head shots.
Cheers for asking mate
That's great news!!!!
Really pleased for you!
It shows the importance of going to get it checked out - I mean, how worried would you have been about your head if it wasn't?
That's why I always get stuff checked out - much better to know than to not!
Chuffed its nothing serious!!
Just wondering, is scenarios like this do many people feel that doctors are judging them for engaging in combat sports? I remember my elbow was giving me jipp from not tapping to an armbar when I should have. When I was explaining to the quack how I got the injury she looked at me like I was scum. Seriously.
