With the impending demise of Strikeforce will Gilbert Melendez be able to hang with the UFC lightweight elite?
I have a lot of respect for Melendez but he hasnt impressed for a while, if he does come across does he get an immediate title shot?

I don't think he should be given a straight title fight but he's got bags of potential. I don't think he's been amazing in the past couple of fights but he's fought quality competition in Aoki, Kawajiri and Masvidal (sort of) but he had to fight Thomson again in his last fight as he ran out of opponents.
Melendez vs Pettis would be a good fight.
I think Melendez could take the title, the LW division is stacked tho, alot of people forget about this division
Its the deepest division in the UFC
Been my fav LW for a while, doesnt mean he is the best I just like the way he fights!
Broke my heart when he smashed Kawajiri :(
