You don't have to be graded in BJJ at all as you may never want to wear a gi, but it is important to have grappling to a decent level if you want to succeed obviously. There are many cases of guys who are technically white belts beating BJJ black belts on the ground, but that doesn't mean those 'white belts' are shit grapplers by any stretch.
Re: the original post, of course it's money orientated.
I think there a lot of pro fighters who have never graded I have never really graded I got given a blue belt after a couple of bjj classes but I see my self as a white belt really has I have only ever put a gi on twice..
The only time a gi has ever looked cool
I agree with both sides. yeah a lot of people rush in with little to none ground game (and hands) and it horrible watching or even hearing about these fights and the promotions putting them on (lets not get started on that 1)
I don't think I would hurt say getting a blue belt or even a high white belt in bjj b4 you compete ammy MMA. also just because some1 doesn't wear a gi and have a blue/purple what eva belt in bjj dose not mean there not I high level grappler and just haven't worn a gi ect.
In my opinion, the 10th Planet system suits MMA as it is all no-gi.
I think so and mat Serra.
