Anybody recommend any amateur, no head shot, tourneys? Suitable for a novice, and ideally in south of england (though I'd travel to the right event)
I'm thinking 2008, but looking for something to aim towards.

You could do Marcs event in November? Head shots are allowed standing only. This is in Aston Villa, only and hour and half from you
Hmm, November sounds worryingly soon!
Also was sort of looking for a completely no headshots event, (seriously, as amateur as possible) but I'd consider it.

Falcons Martial Arts run a very good and really well attended Grapple and Strike League in South East Wales (Ebbw Vale). It is amateur and has no head strikes.
General H who posts on here is the man in the know for it!
You could try the combat Sports Trials in Hereford
