    Default Drugs...

Seems to be quite a number of people on this forum taking drugs so I thought Id put my bit on.

Started taking recreational drugs when I was 13, would say that socialy, I was well and truly hooked when I was 15 taking regular weed, speed, lcd, alcohol etc.. Then onto coke and heroin when 16. Was a completely dependent addict to heroin for 4 years. Stopped all drugs when I was 20 (occasional pint still!) not touched anything since and now 34.

I was lucky to get off them and stay off.

    On the other hand...

One friend of mine on Ketamine reacted badly, freeked out and ended up laying down on a railway line. Luckily, he rolled out the way just in time but left his hand halfway down the line...

another friend who used to take regularly with me had a bad lcd trip and went insane. After 5 years of electric shock treatment the only thing that would give him any sense of being back in control of his mind was heroin so now hes an addict.

1 friend also hot hooked, ended up behind bars.

a few people I met in the heroin circle are now dead.

at least 2 people who got well into drugs ended up massively depressed and took their own lives.

Dozens of people I know have been forever grieved by the loss of someone due to drugs.

I have 3 kids now and hope they never take drugs. The highs can be fun while they last but the gamble is very real and can cost you your mind if not your life.

just a few thoughts on the subject

Train safe and enjoy a good life. Tim

Nothing good ever comes from taking drugs. Drugs are for thugs (although a bit of weed in the 'dam is ok)

I had a faze for a year or two when I was well into it all, not been into any proper stuff for a few years now. I still smoke a bit of pot, which is mostly a social thing, and I like that I can have a decent smoke with my mates on a friday or saturday, get a good nights sleep and go to the gym the next day. I've no chanc of making it to the gym after a night on the ale.

Never really had any bad experiences on drugs personally, but I did know a lad who was my best mate but suddenly had a breakdown and started crying about his dead mother at the end of a speed session. I used to see him evry day, he was a good lively lad but I haven't seen him in years. He lives with his mrs in some shit-hole with their kid (and 3 others she's got with different dads). After that the drugs thing was neverreally the same for me

I grew up with drugs around me thanks to hippie parents, I used to smoke loads of weed and have taken acid, coke, lsd, speed, E's mushrooms.

my biggest problem was booze, i spent years wasting my life in the pub!

Drugs for mugs, dinners for winners!!!

Although I have tried a few of the not so serious drugs in my younger days.
History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.

Daihlo, that was a very brave, candid and honest post.

I believe that everyone draws something positive out of other people's experiences and there is a lot to be learned from yours.

I see at least 5 new people with substances misuse a week and I know that unfortunately those that come to us are a drop in the ocean. It is my biggest fear too, that one day my son will try something addictive and get hooked (in fact, that would be one of my biggest nightmares coming true). I wish all of them would come out the other end, like you have.

Unfortunately these days, drugs and alcohol are so easy to get hold of and some increbidly cheap. To put things into perspective, a can of lagger is cheaper than a can of lemonade, and 3 tabs can be as cheap as £20 which is less than I spend on soft drinks when I go out.

Drugs don't just affect people on low incomes, thugs, teenagers or stupid people. Unfortunately the spread is huge. There's a huge increase of 30-40 year olds with a cocaine dependency, as the price of coke has dramatically slumped in the past 5 years. There are also exceptional cases when people become dependant through no fault of their own ("friends" that slip drugs into your drinks and food, human trafficking, date rapping and even pain relief dependency after surgery, trauma, injury etc). One thing I've learned, is not to be so judgemental).

After a long spell of attempting shock tactics, maybe an even longer spell of education will prove more efficient. I'm sure as hell not counting on governments dealing with the root of the problem of underdevelopded countries feeling that it's more profitable to have poppy fields rather than maize...And since human rights activists started lobbying, secret services have stopped shooting drug barons on the back of their heads so (yes, even I can be controversial lol)...i guess the problem is here to stay and it's on our corner.

Still, I still have high hopes for Norman

    Morphine free poppy

    Again, thanks for the insight

The main problem with most drugs is the way people consume them. 99% of the time it is taken by depressed people who want to escape reality, and consider it as their last thing to do on earth, so they end up taking huge doses and fuck up with their bodies and mind.

If you have an "experimental approach", the right mindset and a good basic knowledge a lot of illegal drugs can be a wonderful and relatively safe experience(far safer than getting hammered every night like most students or consuming anti-depressors). However, you need a minimum of discipline and a good environement.
LSD, Salvia Dininorium(legal, sold in grainger market in newcastle), most psychedelics like DMT, weed or mdma can be taken once in a while. Joe Rogan consumes this sort of drugs on a regular basis. Of course you need to stay away from the addictive shit like heroin or crack, but again, the things I've mentionned are, if taken in the right context and not often in your life, far safer than consuming 10 glasses a night, which is unfortunately common among young people in the UK.

It is still dangerous for emotionnaly unstable people, but so are most of the greatest pleasures that life can offer. We need to have a few wild experiences to make life worth living, like fighting in a cage in front of a screaming crowd.

Again, don't get me wrong, drugs have done way more harm than good to society, but if people were better educated about them when using, it would be a lot different.
