The MAT Academy is in Church Village and they have Lewis Long training out of there. I teach jiu-jitsu there twice a week (brown belt) and Lewis teaches Thai, wrestling and MMA. There is also an awesome conditioning coach.

The MAT Academy seems to be just what I'm looking for and I could deffinatly make it to a few of your BJJ classes. I train weights in Treforest at one-to-one...I had no idea there was a BJJ class there on thursdays and saturdays!
I should be able to make it to a few cardiff classes too, work and traffic permitting.
2pm-3.30pm saturdays at The MAT will be an easy class for me to make it to too, and the mauy thai on the sunday also.
Just a couple of questions mate...
Are the classes suitable for complete beginners?
Should I try and bring a friend so I can practice with someone on my level?
Will I need to buy a Gi from day 1? If not what would be suitable clothing? I'm thinking MMA shorts and a scruffy old tshirt, maybe with a rash vest or something underneath?...cheers
On saturdays I could probably go to The MAT class and then the Treforrest class back to back...I suspect I'd need to build up my conditioning/fitness before even attempting that though!

All classes suitable for all levels mate. But if you want to bring a mate, always the more the merrier
You don't need a gi straight away but I recommend training in the gi as soon as possible. The MAT Academy lessons tend to be all nogi and the one-to-one gym classes are mostly people training in the gi but always a few nogi every lesson. MMA shorts and old t-shirt is perfect for first class.
If you have monthly membership at one-to-one the classes are included!

Ive been training at the MAT for about a year now and done quite a bit of training with Rob and Lewis, i came from having no BJJ or MMA training at all, (being a complete novice) and i feel ive come a long way in no-gi thanks to them. There is a good variaty of guys & gals training there; all ages, weights and skills. If your interested the best way to keep in the loop of when there are lessons is on facebook, its updated every day with the times.
