Broadcaster and former UK Defence Secretary Michael Portillo was in the crowd at the Harvey Hadden Sports Centre in Nottingham for Cage Warriors: Enter The Rough House 7.

Portillo was one of the most high profile politicians of his generation and was tipped my many to be a future Prime Minister. The debonair Tory got caught up in the atmosphere at the well organised event.

Portillo told the UK MMA website hurtbusiness.com:

“I've surprised myself. It was all very absorbing. It's interesting really because the more violent it was the more absorbing it became."

Portillo picked Jim Wallhead vs Fabricio Nascimento as the fight of the night, and talked at length about how impressed he had been by the two fighters. "Judo" Jim earned a unanimous decision after three exciting rounds.

It wasn’t just the fighters who were praised. Michael Portillo commented on the crowd. He said he enjoyed the atmosphere and that, throughout the night, the standard of behaviour was “impeccable”.

Miguel Xavier Portillo has always been one of my most favourite/interesting politicians.

Yeah, he was there... for about 30 minutes. He walked in 3 different times so they got him at different angles, then he sat down and stole somebody's beer, watched for 15 minutes and then left before it ended..

So what ? That's what politicians do, its his job they rarely stick around for long. The fact is a MAJOR heavyweight politician (not just some unknown backbencher in a marginal constituency desperate for any/every vote just to save their own sorry ass in a close run by-election) and significant broadcaster has publicly stated they enjoyed it. That's good news.

He was there from the beginning until after the show finished doing a documentary for the BBC, He seemed a really cool guy and had photo's taken with a few of the fighters.

Wonder if this documentary will be as good as the one he did on the different types of execution ?
