    Default BJJ/NoGi Fundamentals

After reading a thread here by another poster i thought that i would raise the issue off Bjj/grappling fundamentals..

This is a very broad issue and one that may bring up a few surprises as to what people mean by fundamentals..obviously these are the 'bread and butter' moves, drills and manouvers that make up the foundations of a good grappling game.

It would be great to here from everyone and especially have an insight to what 'fundamental' movements are employed and how often these are drilled..i know that we have some very talented grapplers/bjj'ers/instructors/mma'ers onboard here and would be fantastic to hear from these individuals..

This thread aint an attempt to pry and if this is an invasion of any 'club secrets' then applologies..it would be nice to hear differing points of views on this very topically subject..

I havent got enough time to write an entire list - so I'll start with just one and then others can build on that - I will too - when I get time.

1 - You must have a "Bread and Butter" Gward pass. A no messing no fussing - when someone closes their gward you know this off by heart and have done it a thousand times. You posture up and bang out "your" Gward pass.

I think that you need 3 or 4 Bread and Butter gwaurd passes, so you can move to the next one if your 1st doesn't work then to your next. Of course as Flameboy said one that is gonna be something you use all the time(your favourite), but you MUST have back ups incase your opponent keeps on countering your pass.

Have seen many newbies trying to pass just using one pass and unable to, as it gets countered and they have nothing else to use.

This will be brief, but hopefully fairly comprehensive. Fingers crossed. ^_^

You MUST know (in my opinion, of course):

The armbar from mount, the armbar from guard, the triangle from guard.

The americana from side control / mount / half-guard top, the kimura from side control / half-guard top.

    The guillotine from standing.

How to shrimp, how to sprawl.

One guard break + pass (preferably the both arms under pass)

The bridge escape from mount, the guard replacement escape from mount.

Guard replacement from side control / half-guard.

How to defend the armbar (from mount and guard, basic stacking escape), how not to get yourself triangled (both arms in, both arms out).

    Guillotine defense.

    Posture!

How to put the hooks in from turtle + rear naked choke from the back.

How to replace guard + defend hooks from turtle.

Double leg from standing and from knees.

That's my list. Feel free to nitpick.

    ...

    ...

    ...oh, and Rubber Guard. ^_^

    Take care,

    Stalks
